Standard dialogue

Initial dialogue

  • Dodgy Character: Hello.
  • Player: You look a bit shady, if I do say so myself.
  • Dodgy Character: Well that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me!
  • Oriana: The name's Oriana. Nice to meet ya!
  • Oriana shakes your hand with a strong and aggressive grip. She also tries to get inside your pockets...
  • Player: Hey, I saw that!
  • Oriana: Sorry... Force of 'abit.
  • Player: Right... Well I'm [player name]. What is it you do around here?
  • Oriana: Well I'm the best thief to ever live, ain't I.
  • Oriana: This place is filled to the brim with wealthy folk with lots of pricey stuff. It's all prime for the takin'.
  • Oriana: Now what can I do for you?
  • Select an Option
  • (If the player has house keys) Do you know what these keys are for?
    • Player: Do you know what these keys are for?
    • Oriana: Let me take a look.
    • You show Oriana the keys.
    • Oriana: Those are keys to the houses round 'ere.
    • Player: Oh, so I can just waltz right in?
    • Oriana: Essentially yes! Though the keys you showed me look a bit old. I'd try to find as many as you can just in case they break.
    • (Shows initial options)
  • Can you tell me more about these rich folk?
    • Player: Can you tell me more about these rich folk?
    • Oriana: Yes I can. Some 'ave got houses full of loot, while others spend their days at the bazaar. What do you want to know?
    • Select an Option
    • Tell me about the houses.
      • Player: Tell me about the houses.
      • Oriana: Some of them round here are filled with loot for sure. They've got so many bits and bobs, trinkets and doodads, that they 'ardly ever notice they've been robbed.
      • Player: You rob them?
      • Oriana: Oh yes.
      • Player: How do you manage that?
      • Oriana: First we get keys for these houses, which are always conveniently under the doormat.
      • Player: Are you serious? It's that easy?
      • Oriana: Ha... No. I was just pulling your leg.
      • Oriana: You'll 'ave to steal the house keys from the citizens.
      • Oriana: All these wealthy folk buy and sell property like it's nothing, so they 'ave plenty of spare keys to go round.
      • Player: So how do you steal them?
      • Oriana: We pick their pockets of course. I 'ave some of my crew in the bazaar. If you fancy gettin' involved, they might help you out every now and then.
      • Oriana: Once you 'ave a key, you can break into a house. Not any ol' house though. It must be one that's ready to be robbed.
      • Oriana: The street urchins that roam the streets keep tabs on which houses are vulnerable.
      • Oriana: Once you know a house is vulnerable, wait for the owner to leave. Then just simply use your key to get in and steal to your heart's content!
      • Oriana: But whatever you do, dont get caught!
      • Player: So... steal keys, use keys on the houses that are ready to be robbed, make buckets of cash and don't be caught?
      • Oriana: That's it!
      • Oriana: If you're not sure where to begin, chat to the urchins in my crew posted round the houses. They'll help you find the next one to plunder.
      • Oriana: Though it might come at a price.
      • (Shows initial options)
    • Tell me about the bazaar.
      • Player: Tell me about the bazaar.
      • Oriana: Some of the wealthiest citizens in Varlamore shop in the bazaar and nearby. A perfect place to pick some pockets!
      • Player: Surely it's not so easy though?
      • Oriana: You'd be right about that. If it were easy to steal from 'em, they wouldn't be so rich, would they?
      • Player: Sounds like you might have some tips?
      • Oriana: Some of the street urchins in my crew hang around in the bazaar and on the outskirts. They might be able to provide some sort of distraction.
      • Player: They do it just out of the goodness of their heart?
      • Oriana: You're funny, [player name].
      • Oriana: They get a cut in all the wealth we make.
      • Player: Can I get a cut?
      • Oriana: Cheeky! You're lucky I don't steal from you right now!
      • (Shows initial options)
    • I'd better get going.
      • Player: I'd better get going.
      • Oriana: See you later.
      • (End of dialogue)
  • Do you work alone?
    • Player: Do you work alone?
    • Oriana: Nah! I 'ave a network of spies and pickpockets that roam the city. You might've seen 'em?
    • Player: Seen them? Not sure I have.
    • Oriana: Hidden in plain sight. Perfect! Well it's all the street urchins of course. You can tell if they are part of my crew by the purple sash around their waist.
    • Oriana: Most of them lost their parents to the Colosseum, hoping to get glory for their family. The Colosseum 'owever, had other plans...
    • Player: That's awful.
    • Oriana: It really is. They had nowhere to go and no food to eat, so I offered them a home, food, and all the gold they would ever need to 'ave a good life.
    • Oriana: No one suspects them, which makes them perfect spies.
    • Player: Can they help me in anyway?
    • Oriana: Yes they can! Some in the residential area will point out houses free to rob, and some will be in and around the bazaar, distracting the wealthy citizens.
    • Player: Well that's handy.
    • Oriana: It sure is, but give them any trouble, and I'll throw you in the Colosseum myself.
    • Player: Understood.
    • (Shows initial options)
  • What's your story?
    • Player: What's your story?
    • Oriana: Not much to tell really.
    • Oriana: I was an orphan, much like these street urchins you see around the city. I spent my days running around scrounging for food and struggling to find somewhere to sleep.
    • Oriana: Eventually, I turned to a life of crime and thievery. Turns out I'm quite good at it.
    • Oriana: I took refuge in a small spot in the north east of the city. Out of sight, out of mind.
    • Oriana: There I met with other orphans just like me. We all wanted payback. Payback on the city for forgetting about us.
    • Player: I'm sure there are better places for you and your crew to find refuge outside of the city. Even outside of Varlamore.
    • Oriana: That may be the case, [player name], but I can't in good conscience leave any of the folk here who are struggling. I swore to help anyone in need.
    • Oriana: While the Colosseum still stands, family greed for glory will cost people. Some just their livelihoods, others their lives!
    • Player: So you really want to make a difference?
    • Oriana: Well don't get me wrong, I still want to get filthy stinking rich as well!
    • Player: Don't we all...
    • (Shows initial options)
  • I'd better get going.
    • Player: I'd better get going.
    • Oriana: See you later.
    • (End of dialogue)

After stealing valuables for the first time

  • Oriana: Managed to steal anything yet?
  • Player: I have actually! I've found these valuables from some of the houses.
  • Oriana: Want some coin for those? I'll give you a good deal... One coin a piece.
  • Player: One measly coin? That hardly seems worth it.
  • Oriana: The thing is, you won't be able to sell those yourself, making them worthless. Still, how 'bout five coins a piece?
  • Player: 200!
  • Oriana: That's crazy! Ever 'eard of inflation. It affects us thieves too...
  • Oriana: 30 coins. No higher.
  • Player: 100!
  • Oriana: 55 coins is my final offer.

Alternatively, if the player has reached the rank of Gladiator in the Colosseum:

  • Oriana: 65 coins is my final offer. I've even throw in a little extra as you seem to be the talk of the town, [rank].
  • Player: I suppose that's better than nothing.
  • Oriana: Good. Do you want to trade them in now?
  • Select an Option
  • Sure thing.
    • Player: Sure thing.
    • How many valuables would you like to hand in? (player input)
    • You hand in [number] valuable items for [number] coins.
    • Oriana: There ya go! Don't spend it all at once.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • Not at the moment.
    • Player: Not at the moment.
    • Oriana: Suit yourself. What to chat 'bout something else?
    • (Shows initial options)

Subsequent Dialogue

  • Oriana: How's it going, [Player name]?
  • (Same as above)

If trading valuables to Oriana after starting

  • How many valuables would you like to hand in? (player input)
  • You hand in [number] valuable items for [number] coins.
  • Oriana: There ya go! Don't spend it all at once.
  • (End of dialogue)

If trading in nothing to Oriana

  • Oriana: You don't seem to anything to trade in to me.
  • You need some valuables from nearby houses to trade in.
  • (End of dialogue)
