The weird snake was a tomato in disguise that was released with the Monkey Madness I quest.
Monkey Madness I was notorious for its idiosyncratic development and coding compared to the rest of the game.[1] When the quest was released an unused copy of each character from the quest was also added. For unknown reasons, the copy of the snake had been replaced by a tomato. A year later, it was given an official name and examine as a weird snake.
It is unknown whether the disguised tomato was the legacy of a mechanic cut before launch, or if it was just a joke by developers. Regardless, the unused NPC copies were all removed in a hidden update in 2007. As a result, it has never been present in Old School RuneScape.
