During Dragon Slayer I

Before hiring Ned as a captain

  • Ned: Hello again, [lad/lass]. Something I can help you with? Want to buy some rope perhaps?
  • Select an Option
  • You're a sailor? Could you take me to Crandor?
    • Ned: Well, I was a sailor. I've not been able to get work at sea these days, though. They say I'm too old.
    • Ned: Sorry, where was it you said you wanted to go?
    • Player: To the island of Crandor.
    • Ned: Crandor?
    • Ned: But... It would be a chance to sail a ship once more. I'd sail anywhere if it was a chance to sail again.
    • Ned: Then again, no captain in his right mind would sail to that island...
    • Ned: Ah, you only live once! I'll do it!
    • Ned: So, where's your ship?
    • If the player doesn't own a ship:
      • (Transcript missing. edit)
    • Player: It's the Lady Lumbridge, in Port Sarim.
    • Ned: That old pile of junk? Last I heard, she wasn't seaworthy.
    • If the player has not repaired the ship:
      • (Transcript missing. edit)
    • Player: I fixed her up!
    • Ned: You did? Excellent!
    • Ned: Just show me the map and we can get ready to go!
    • If the player does not have all the map pieces or the map:
      • (Transcript missing. edit)
    • Player: Here you go.
    • You hand the map parts to Ned.
    • Ned: Excellent! I'll meet you at the ship, then.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • (Non-quest dialogue) Yes, I would like some rope.
  • (Non-quest dialogue) No thanks, Ned. I don't need any.

On the board of Lady Lumbridge

  • Captain Ned: Ah, it's good to be on board a ship again! No matter how long I live on land, a ship will always seem better. Are you ready to depart?
  • Select an Option
  • Yes, let's go!
    • Player: Yes, let's go!
    • (Cutscene begins.)
  • No, I'm not quite ready yet.
    • Player: No, I'm not quite ready yet.
    • Captain Ned: Well, you go do whatever you need to do. I'll wait here for you until you're ready.
    • (End of dialogue)

Here be dragons

  • (Cutscene begins.)
  • Captain Ned: Ah, it's good to feel the salt spray on my face once again!
  • Captain Ned: And this is a mighty fine ship. She don't look much, but she handles like a dream.
  • Player: How much longer until we reach Crandor?
  • Captain Ned: Not long now! According to the chart, we'd be able to see Crandor if it wasn't for those clouds on the horizon.
  • Clouds surround the ship.
  • Cabin boy Jenkins: Looks like there's a storm coming up, cap'n. Soon we won't be able to see anything!
  • Captain Ned: Oh, well. The weather had been so good up until now.
  • Player: Did you see that?
  • Captain Ned: See what?
  • Player: I thought I saw something up above us.
  • Captain Ned: It's the dragon!
  • Captain Ned: We're going to sink!
  • Player: Look! Land ahead!
  • Captain Ned: We're going to crash!
  • CRASH!
  • You are knocked unconscious and later awake on an ash-strewn beach.
  • (Cutscene ends.)

Crashing on Crandor

  • Captain Ned: Now I see why all the other captains said I'd be mad to go near Crandor. It looks like we're stranded.
  • If the player has not discovered the secret door:
    • (End of dialogue)
  • Player: Don't worry about that. I found a secret passage in the dragon's lair that leads off the island!
  • Captain Ned: Oh, that's good. I'll be able to get back to Draynor somehow,
  • Captain Ned: if I can sneak past all the skeletons and demons on this island!
  • (End of dialogue)

Back in Draynor after "visiting" Crandor

      • Player: Can you take me back to Crandor again?
      • Ned: Aye, that I could. I'll meet you at the Port Sarim docks again. I'll try to steer a little better this time!

    • (Non-quest dialogue) Yes, I would like some rope.
    • (Non-quest dialogue) No thanks, Ned. I don't need any.
  • (Non-quest dialogue) Yes, I would like some rope.
  • (Non-quest dialogue) No thanks, Ned. I don't need any.

    • Player: Yes, I would like some rope.
    • Ned: Well, I can sell you some rope for 15 coins. Or I can be making you some if you gets me 4 balls of wool. I strands them together I does, makes em strong.
    • Player: You make rope from wool?
    • Ned: Of course you can!
    • Player: I thought you needed hemp or jute.
    • Ned: Do you want some rope or not?
    • Okay, please sell me some rope.
      • If the player doesn't have 15 coins:
        • You don't have enough coins to buy any rope!
        • If the player has completed the The Fremennik Isles quest:
          • (Continues below)
        • If the player has not completed the The Fremennik Isles quest:
          • (End of dialogue)
      • If the player has 15 coins:
        • Player: Okay, please sell me some rope.
        • Ned: There you go, finest rope in Gielinor.

          • (Continues below)
        • If the player has not completed the The Fremennik Isles quest:
          • (End of dialogue)
      • Player: Thanks. Hmmm, do you know something? This rope has a funny smell.
      • Ned: Really?
      • Player: Yes, It reminds me of...yaks. I was travelling in the Fremennik Isles recently and, do you know what? They made rope out of yak's hair.
      • Ned: What a coincidence?
      • Player: There was a lady over there who sold wool, she said she traded rope for the wool.
      • Ned: Who would have thought it?
      • Player: I don't think you make rope at all. I think you trade balls of wool for rope.
      • Ned: Oh, I confess. You have found the truth. I used to make the rope myself, but my fingers aren't as nimble as they used to be and so many people wanted my rope. Demand was so high I had to find another
      • Ned: source. But I couldn't tell anyone since Ned's Handmade Rope (100% Wool) is a high profile brand now.
      • Player: Yes, well, the wool is still pretty good, though yak hair makes fine rope. I don't suppose any harm will come of it.
      • If the player has inventory space:
        • Ned: Thanks. Here take this, a free sample! Please, don't tell anyone.
      • Player: Well, it's always good to keep on the good side of a sailor. Your secret is safe with me.
      • If the player has inventory space:
        • (Player receives rope.)
      • Ned: Oh, if you're in the Isles again, tell Jofridr that her Neddie will be there soon.
      • Player: I will do that!
      • (End of dialogue)
    • (If the player has 4 balls of wool:) I have some balls of wool. Could you make me some rope?
      • Player: I have some balls of wool. Could you make me some rope?
      • Ned: Sure I can.
      • You hand over 4 balls of wool. Ned gives you a coil of rope.
      • (End of dialogue)
    • That's a little more than I want to pay.
      • Player: That's a little more than I want to pay.
      • Ned: Well, if you ever need rope that's the price. Sorry. An old sailor needs money for a little drop o' rum.
      • (End of dialogue)
    • (If the player does not have 4 balls of wool:) I will go and get some wool.
      • Player: I will go and get some wool.
      • Ned: Aye, you do that. Remember, it takes 4 balls of wool to make strong rope.
      • (End of dialogue)
  • No thanks Ned, I don't need any.
    • Player: No thanks Ned, I don't need any.
    • Ned: Well, old Neddy is always here if you do. Tell your friends. I can always be using the business.
    • (End of dialogue)
