Pumpkins are the first holiday food rare and second holiday rare to be dropped, the first being the Scythe. Pumpkins can be obtained by completing one of the Halloween holiday events that occur once per year. This also rewards the player with all other holiday items associated with Halloween.

If you plan to sell your pumpkin, it is recommended that you put it in note form to avoid accidentally eating it.

When eaten, the pumpkin heals 14 hitpoints. However, due to their price, it is not recommended to consume pumpkins, as they heal just as much as a swordfish, which is much cheaper.

Previously, they were obtainable during the 2013 Rare Drops event (from 10 June to 17 June) as part of a rare item drop.

Since the 2014 Halloween Event, Jagex decided to host a number of events in-game, most of which were live-streamed. They gave community leaders and other familiar faces an item that could be used to scatter pumpkins. Doing this allows for more consistent and varied events throughout the holiday period.
