Banshees can be assigned as a Slayer task at level 15 Slayer and level 20 combat by various Slayer masters. They are found in the Slayer Tower and the Catacombs of Kourend. Players must wear earmuffs or a Slayer helm when fighting banshees.

Banshees are primarily known for their common drops of pure essence, which is helpful for ironmen for runecrafting.

A stronger variant of banshee, the Twisted Banshee, can be found in the Catacombs of Kourend. These are often killed over normal banshees as they are still easy to kill (notably being safespottable) and have much better drops; battlestaves, rune equipment and larger quantities of herbs and rune equipment.
