Members object

Members object was the term given on a free-to-play world to any item that could only be used on a members' world. The item would return to normal if you switched to a members' world again.

Members objects could not be traded in free-to-play worlds. If already equipped, they would remain equipped on the free world, but if removed they could not be put back on. All members objects had the same examine text: "Login to a members' server to use this object."

Members objects did not provide any combat bonuses on free worlds, but they did continue having weight which affected energy. Weapons that are held in a certain way or have custom animations that act on the player model would not work as members objects; all weapons were held in a generic manner—similar to a basic sword—regardless of the weapon equipped. Fighting with a members-only weapon on a free world would behave as if the player is unarmed, even if the weapon was a ranged weapon or a powered staff, and only unarmed combat styles were available.

Dropped members objects were treated as untradeable items and would disappear after 3 minutes. It was not possible to drop trade members objects. Destroyable items such as the Barrelchest anchor and certain members-only quest items, despite having the "drop" option, would still show a confirmation message for destroying the item if the "drop" option was selected, and would act accordingly.

Since an update on 1 June 2023, members items on free-to-play worlds appear as "Item name (Members)", rather than "Members object". A subsequent update on 14 June 2023 made them sellable on the Grand Exchange (useful for players who were previously members and need to sell some of their members objects to afford a bond). The other restrictions on the items' functions still apply.
