The certificate is a quest item used in the Death Plateau quest, given to players by Denulth so that Dunstan's son can join the Imperial Guard. In return, Dunstan will make players a set of spiked boots to give to Tenzing. At least one free inventory space is required to claim it.

Player who talk to Denulth with a full inventory will receive an in-game message saying Denulth has given you a certificate.. However, when asking Dunstan to make the spiked boots, he won't take the player's word. Dunstan will not make the boots unless players have a certificate in their inventory.

The drop trick can be used to get multiple certificates if desired.
