Taverley |
The Principality of Burthorpe is a military principality north-west of Falador and north of Taverley, and is currently the base of the Burthorpe Imperial Guard as well as the residence of Crown Prince Anlaf. Burthorpe is one of the only locations in Asgarnia that isn't controlled by the White Knights. The Imperial Guard keep Burthorpe secure, and they are loyal to the royal line of Asgarnia, especially Crown Prince Anlaf. They are charged with maintaining and defending the citadel which stands between Burthorpe and Trollheim.
Trollheim is immediately north of Burthorpe, and due to that, the town has come under constant attacks, raids and invasions by the Trolls, having led to the Burthorpe–Troll Country War. Death Plateau in particular seems a threat, as many heavily armed trolls have a permanent camp there. The Imperial Guard, with help of adventurers, has been taking measures to reduce this threat. Trolls are often seen invading the town, slaughtering families and soldiers alike. If the trolls were to overrun Burthorpe, Falador will use it as a reason to disband the Imperial Guard and the town would come under control of the White Knights. Commander Denulth considers the White Knights to be taking advantage of King Vallance, who he describes as "old and weak".
Entrances
Burthorpe can be accessed from one of the following methods:
- Southwards, Burthorpe is adjacent to Taverley.
- Northwards, a path from the city leads to the Death Plateau and Trollheim.
- Requiring 14 Agility and completion of the Easy Falador Diary, a shortcut exists between the city and the Chaos Temple, near Goblin Village.
Transportation
There are several ways to reach the city:
- Through use of a charged Games necklace to the city (previously this took you to the Burthorpe Games Room).
- Use of a Combat bracelet can teleport you to the Warriors' Guild.
- Use of the free minigame teleport located in their minigame list every twenty minutes to the Burthorpe Games Room.
- House portal - There is a house portal in Taverley; by using house teleport (requires 40 Magic, 1 air rune, 1 law rune and 1 earth rune) or a Teleport to house tablet, they can teleport to their house, which can be located in Taverley, only a short walk away.
- Falador Teleport - This teleportation method is available if the player's Magic level is at least 37 and they have 3 air runes, 1 water rune, and 1 law rune in their inventory or use of a teleport tablet. From Falador, Taverley and Burthorpe are a short walk away.
- On foot - There are several entrances to Burthorpe, as shown above.
Notable features
- Burthorpe is a bleak village home to several soldiers. Recruits wearing black leather armour and claws stand in ranks, performing drill exercises.
- The attackable soldiers have a chance at dropping Black claws, one of the two sources of them in game. (The other being Giant Rock Crabs.)
- Inside of Burthorpe Castle is the Burthorpe Games Rooms, Prince Anlaf's private game hall.
- The Warriors' Guild houses a wide variety of Melee-based minigames. It can be accessed by obtaining either a combined level 130 of Attack and Strength, or 99 Attack or Strength respectively.
- The Heroes' Guild is due south of Burthorpe. It is the start point for the Heroes' Quest.
- The Toad and Chicken Inn is a small tavern located south of the training grounds. Asgarnian ales and Beer glasses spawn inside. Located behind the bar is a trapdoor that can be opened, leading to the Rogues' Den:
- The Rogues' Den minigame (requiring 50 Agility and 50 Thieving).
- A bonfire that does not go out, with the banker Emerald Benedict very close by. This is a popular place to train Cooking.
- Grace's Graceful Clothing is a clothing store owned by Grace. It is the only store that sells graceful clothing (reduces weight when worn), which is bought with marks of grace.
- Bernald, outside The Toad and Chicken inn, is involved in the Garden of Tranquillity quest.
- The respawn point for Bob the Jagex Cat is located in Burthorpe.
- Turael, the lowest ranking Slayer master, can be found in the house with the yellow skull icon. He gives the easiest Slayer assignments, and has the usual slayer items for sale.
Quests
The following quests may be started in Burthorpe:
- Heroes' Quest by speaking to Achietties at the entrance of the Heroes' Guild, found south of Burthorpe.
- Death Plateau and Troll Stronghold by speaking to Denulth, in his tent south of the castle.
- A Tail of Two Cats by speaking to Unferth, in his house due east of the castle.

Trivia
Speaking to any member of the Imperial Guard except for major NPCs, (essentially any attackable Soldier), results in "jargon", which is actually a statement in the Latin language. A few of these statements and their English translations are given below:
- "Te audire non possume. Musa sapientum fixa est in aure" - "I can't hear you. I have a banana stuck in my ear."
- "Noli me covare, ego te vocabo" - "I don't want you to call me, I'll call you."
- "Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari?" - "How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"
- "Fac ut gaudeam" - "Make me happy."
A more extensive list of these Latin statements and their English translations can be found on the NPC page for the attackable soldiers.
