The Burthorpe Games Room is a minigame area located under Burthorpe Castle in Burthorpe. Players can teleport there using a games necklace, or by using the Grouping interface. There are no rewards or prizes for playing each except for game rankings. A branch of the Toad and Chicken pub is located by the entrance, Sam and Rachael both sell glasses of beer: Asgarnian ale, Wizard's mind bomb, and Dwarven stout for 2 coins each.

The games offered are identical to the ones at the Games Zone.

Games

The games in the Burthorpe Games Room are quite common brain-teasing puzzle games, such as Othello, Draughts (known as checkers in North America), and Connect Four. They are played with one person at a time, and the player can be challenged to any of the four games via the lobby. However, at the end of each game, the player is placed in a room in which they can only challenge their opponent to another match of the previous game; making it so you must return to the main room prior to challenging them to a different game.

Interface Game information
Draughts is RuneScape's version of English draughts (known in North America as checkers), using runes instead of checkers. Like real checkers, the object of the game is to 'jump' over all of your opponent's pieces.
Runelink is RuneScape's version of Connect Four, using runes instead of connect four checkers. Each player must click a column, which will drop their rune to the bottom-most empty space in that column. A player wins when they connects four of their runes diagonally or in a straight line.
Runeversi is RuneScape's version of Reversi or Othello using runes as game pieces. The goal is to have more of your runes on the board than your opponent. You can take your opponents pieces by trapping them between your own.
Runesquares is RuneScape's version of Dots and Boxes, using runes as game pieces. The board is arranged in a grid pattern. Each player fills in white line segments. If a player closes a box (their line completes a 1x1 square), that player's rune appears in the box. The player then gets another turn to place another segment. The game ends when all boxes are filled, and the player with the most filled-in squares is the winner.

Rank system

Players have a "rank" for each of the four games, which goes up or down depending on whether they beat their opponents in the game, similar to the Elo system famously used for chess ratings. The rank initially starts at 1,000, and the rank change scales with the difference between the opponents' ranks.

The resulting change is bounded between 1 and 100, and is added to the winner and subtracted from the loser. Your rank cannot go below 1 or above 60000. For example:

  • a 1,000-rank player beating another 1,000-rank player will gain 50 points
  • a 1,200-rank player beating a 800-rank player will gain 25 points
  • a 800-rank player beating a 1,200 rank player will gain 75 points
  • a 1,500 rank player beating a 500-rank player will only gain 1 point
  • a 643 rank playing beating a 1-rank player will gain 9 points, but the loser will not lose any points because they are already at the minimum rank.

Players need 1,500 rank in the relevant game in order to go to some of the upstairs rooms in the Games Room.

Trivia

The goblin army seen during the quest from the western side of the Burthorpe Games Room.
  • The area where the cutscene from The Eyes of Glouphrie takes place in can be seen from the western side of the Games Room by using an oculus orb. As the gnome and goblin armies are not classified as NPCs by the game, they can be seen as well.
  • In the 27th issue of God Letters, Saradomin mentions he enjoys "the odd game of Runelink with Guthix."[1]
  • When attempting to drop an item inside the Games Room, a unique warning is given to the player: "Are you sure you want to put that down? If you start playing a boardgame, you may not get back to retrieve it." After the player selects "Put it down." no further warnings will be given until the player teleports out or goes south of the walls outside Burthorpe Castle.
