The White Knights are a Saradominist order of knights based in Asgarnia. They are headquartered at the White Knights' Castle in Falador, where they oversee the kingdom. The Kinshra, aka the Black Knights, have been their greatest rivals since at least the beginning of the Fifth Age.
The Temple Knights are an elite faction of the White Knights, described as being smarter, stronger, and better than the others.[1] Their order may also be much older.[2] During the Wanted! quest, Sir Tiffy Cashien states that the White Knights were founded many centuries ago, though it is unclear how far back this goes, as much of their early history is unknown.
History
At the start of the Fifth Age, the White Knights allied with King Raddallin and became the main military force in Falador.[3] After the death of the first king, King Vallance proceeded to rule into old age before falling very ill in the year 162. The White Knights took advantage of this when their leader, Sir Amik Varze, became regent of Asgarnia, giving them the upper hand in their conflict against the Kinshra.[4] The following year, Sir Amik declared that the Black Knights were to no longer have any political power within Asgarnia. Lord Daquarius of the Kinshra then immediately declared war against Falador, and soon after, the two sides fought in a great battle to the north of Falador. Both sides happened to be too evenly matched, however, so they retreated and began plotting how to destroy the other once and for all.[5]
In the years prior, a devout Zamorakian named Iban joined the Black Knights and trained under Lord Daquarius. Iban became a skilled warrior, said to have slain hundreds of White Knights.[6] Due to the threat Iban posed, the White Knights launched an attack known as the Dawn Ascent, which resulted in his death.[7] This occurred some time between 162 and 168. As the White Knights continued to pour money into their war against the Black Knights, they sought to use this as an excuse to stop funding the Burthorpe Imperial Guard and then gain control of the territory. However, on the condition that the Imperial Guard succeed in destroying the trolls on the Death Plateau, the White Knights will keep funding them, hence the Burthorpe–Troll Country War is ongoing.[8]
The White Knights were involved in the Edgeville Incident, in which a murderous mage slew over 800 civilians and an equal number of White and Black Knights.[9]
Players as White Knights
After completing the Wanted! quest, players can increase their White Knight rank by killing black knights by 1, killing elite dark warriors, mages, and rangers count as 6, and elite black knights count as 12. Killing white knights decreases the player's number by 1 per knight.
Number of Black Knights killed | Player rank in White Knights |
---|---|
Fewer than 100 | No rank |
100 - 199 | White Knight Novice |
200 - 299 | White Knight Peon |
300 - 499 | White Knight Page |
500 - 799 | White Knight Noble |
800 - 1299 | White Knight Adept |
1,300+ | White Knight Master |
Players can check their rank by reading the Wanted! quest journal, with wordings of "I am currently a (Rank) White Knight with a kill score of XXX".
After reaching the rank of White Knight Master, killing white knights will no longer decrease your number of Black Knights killed.

Trivia
- Most of the White Knights have names that are plays on words; for instance, there is "Sir Vyvin" (surviving), "Sir Renitee" (serenity), Sir Amik Varze" (ceramic vase), "Sir Vey Lance" (surveillance), "Sir Tiffy Cashien" (certification), "Sir Spishyus" (suspicious), "Sir Tinley" (certainly), "Sir Culler Flife" (circle of life), and "Sir Pear Visor" (supervisor).
- Prospective members of the order also have a name that would behave as wordplay. Squire Vicks, for example, would become "Sir Vicks" (cervix), while Sir Tiffy's grandson, mentioned during the 2016 Birthday event, would be named "Sir Ebel Lum" (cerebellum). Kit Breaker, an aspiring White Knight in the 2024 Pride event, would become "Sir Kit Breaker" (circuit breaker).
- The rank of a White Knight can be determined by the colour of the plume on their helmet: initiates have a red plume, proselytes have a yellow plume, acolytes have a green plume, and partisans have a blue plume, the plume of the white full helm that can be purchased from Sir Vyvin can only be red.
