Nagua
A nagua is a type of spirit summoned through a type of magic called naguanil. Nagua generally appear as floating entities with four arms and tentacle-like appendages in place of legs, though their individual appearances vary.
A statue of the Old Ones in the Grand Museum of Civitas illa Fortis is thought to depict a nagua, according to its inscription.
History
Early History
The nagua are spirits summoned through naguanil, which was practiced by the Old Ones. After the destruction of the Old Ones following their creation of The Strangler, the Nagua appeared to go about their own business, primarily occupying ancient ruins. They would show disdain to humans, believing them to be unworthy after misusing "their gifts".
The Moons of Peril, a trio of powerful nagua, were created by a powerful shaman facing imminent death and sought to inflict the same on others. Her companions disapproved, creating Neypotzli to imprison them and summoned the nagua Eyatlalli to watch over the prison.
Recent History
When Varlamore first opened to the rest of Gielinor, an adventurer discovered Neypotzli and discovered Eyatlalli, only for the prison to shake. Zuma had touched the prison's icosahedron, resulting in the prison's seal weakening and allowing the Moons of Peril a taste of freedom. The adventurer quickly helped Eyatlalli secure items needed for an emergency ritual before subduing the Moons, allowing her to restore the seal and imprisoning the Moons once more, though they were more invigorated due to their small taste of freedom.
While investigating the Twilight Emissaries to discover Servius' attempted murderer, the adventurer and Prince Itzla Arkan infiltrated the cult and were sent to the Ruins of Tapoyauik, discovering frost nagua and a more powerful frost nagua guardian, Amoxliatl. Amoxliatl demanded to know their intents and learned that they had come to investigate the cult over their mention of Mokhaiotl - or the Tlati archive, was off-limits to humans just as Itzla was teleported away by the cult. The adventurer managed to fend off Amoxliatl for a time before she banished them from the fortress.
