Karamja Volcano

Crandor is a small volcanic island north of Karamja. Players gain access to the island during Dragon Slayer I, when the Guildmaster tasks them with defeating the mighty dragon Elvarg, who terrorizes the island.

History

According to the Guildmaster in the Champions' Guild, Crandor was once a thriving community. When players return to him after speaking with Oziach, he goes into a detailed explanation of what transpired:

Thirty years ago, Crandor was a thriving community with a great tradition of mages and adventurers. Many Crandorians even earned the right to be part of the Champions' Guild! One of their adventurers went too far, however. He descended into the volcano in the centre of Crandor and woke the dragon Elvarg. He must have fought valiantly against the dragon because they say that, to this day, she has a scar down her side, but the dragon still won the fight. She emerged and laid waste to the whole of Crandor with her fire breath! Some refugees managed to escape in fishing boats. They landed on the coast, north of Rimmington, and set up camp but the dragon followed them and burned the camp to the ground. Out of all the people of Crandor there were only three survivors: a trio of wizards who used magic to escape. Their names were Thalzar, Lozar and Melzar.

Furthermore, Duke Horacio also mentions Crandor when the player requests an Anti-dragon shield from him:

Back in my father's day, Crandor was an important city-state. Politically, it was as important as Falador or Varrock and its ships traded with every port. But, one day when I was little, all contact was lost. The trading ships and the diplomatic envoys just stopped coming. I remember my father being very scared. He posted lookouts on the roof to warn if the dragon was approaching. All the city rulers were worried that Elvarg would devastate the entire continent.

Appearance

The ruins that cover Crandor are mainly of stone design, as any other materials were likely destroyed in the attack. Structures seem to have included brick walls, tiled floors, and supportive columns. Where the stone was obtained is unknown, although it may be igneous rock from within the volcano.

While there is no lava on the surface of the island, the Crandor Dungeon below has lava inside it, indicating that the volcano is still active.

Getting there

Crandor can first be accessed by boat by speaking to Ned during the Dragon Slayer I quest after obtaining the three map pieces and repairing the boat.

After the quest, Crandor is accessed via the Crandor and Karamja Dungeon, entering through the Karamja volcano entrance, then going north through the wall, then climbing the rope at the north end of the dungeon.

The fearsome dragon Elvarg.

Monsters

Crandor is home to a wide variety of monsters, each on different parts of the island. Due to the level of the monsters and their drops, it's a common island for mid-to-high level free-to-play players to train on, especially when ranging from the many safespots.

On the south-eastern tip near the crashed ship are skeletons, with more skeletons on the western side of the island. On the northern tip are king scorpions, and a little west of them are hobgoblins. South of these monsters are two lesser demons, and far south of the demons are three moss giants. All of the monsters attack with melee. Players can encounter these monsters again in the dungeon below, as well as deadly red spiders and Elvarg.

Rocks

The hole at the top of Crandor will lead to the Crandor and Karamja Dungeon, mapped above.

Crandor also has some rocks which players can mine through the Mining skill, which are labelled on the map with a small pickaxe. There are four mining areas on the island, each guarded by their own monster.

Location Ores available Guarding monsters Level for non-aggression
South-west beach 7 mithril rocks Skeletons (level 22) 45
North-east beach 3 gold rocks King Scorpion (level 32) 65
South foothill 3 coal rocks and 3 adamantite rocks Moss giants (level 42) 85
North foothill 7 coal rocks and 1 mithril rock Hobgoblins (level 40) 81

Dungeons

Underneath the island is a dungeon which connects to Karamja, labelled on the map with a red exclamation mark. Players can climb down the hole at the top of the island to enter. In it are more skeletons, deadly red spiders, lesser demons, and Elvarg.

Elvarg resides in her own section of the Crandor Dungeon, and will be walking around until you fight her. After the quest, her model will still be there, but she will not be attackable.

Trivia

  • After the Dragon Slayer I quest, you can find Ned in the broken ship. The Crandor Ned will not talk about the task for the Lumbridge & Draynor Diary.
  • Crandor is the only island to be fully accessed on free-to-play, as on Karamja, players cannot venture past Musa Point.
  • Crandor was once covered in lush foliage, although after a graphical update it changed back to an ash-filled black island.
