Gunnar was a Fremennik barbarian from a nomadic mountain tribe. He left his larger tribe with his friends and their families to find a new home.[1]
Gunnar is known to have led the Runecrafting Crusades around Kandarin and Asgarnia.[2] He is also responsible for the slaughter of the Imcando dwarfs.[3]
After losing a significant amount of his army, he settled west of Avarrocka near the River Lum, now known as the Barbarian Village. Although the initial plan was to lay low in order to continue attacking again soon[4], they buried their hatchet with rune-users and now coexist peacefully.[5]
Gunnar is a direct ancestor of Gunthor the Brave, the current chieftain of the Barbarian Village.[6]
