Sunfire splinters can be obtained from participating in the Fortis Colosseum, hunting sunlight antelope and defeating the Hueycoatl. They are used for various items:

Charges Dizana's quiver and the tonalztics of ralos
Create sunfire runes with rune essence (and variants) alongside fire runes (1 fire rune and 1 sunfire splinter are used per essence)
Create searing pages with burnt pages (indirectly - it takes 100 sunfire runes rather than splinters)
Create jugs of sunfire wine from a jug of wine (uses 2 splinters per jug, requires pestle & mortar)
