The Zamorak Magical Institute (known also as Z.M.I.) is a Zamorakian organisation which specialises in magics and runecraft. Formed after their banishment from the Order of Wizards following claims that they burned down the Wizards' Tower,[1][2] its main goal seems to be to arm Zamorakian magic specialists with runes and to gain access to the rune essence mine,[3] in which they believe that the Order has regained access to it.[4]
They have taken control of the Ourania Cave and the runic altar therein, and have access to a part of the Abyss, where they have created rifts leading directly to temples housing the runic altars.[5] They seem to be active in the greater Varrock area. According to Savant, the Temple Knights suspect this organisation to be responsible for the burning of the Wizards' Tower in decades past and a number of other crimes.[6]
