The main menu of the Jagex Launcher

The Jagex Launcher is an official game launcher for Old School RuneScape and RuneScape. It was launched on 14 March 2022 through an open beta.

Currently, it is available for installation on Windows and macOS.

Since 7 November 2023, all players are required to have a Jagex Account in order to sign-in to the Jagex Launcher.

Game clients

The launcher can locate and launch existing game clients installed on the same system, or it can be used to install the clients if they are not found. For Old School RuneScape, this includes the New Official Client, RuneLite and HDOS.

Using the launcher provides the supported clients with a "Play Now" button that skips the login process, as the user is now authorised through the Jagex Launcher.

Account information

To use the launcher, the player must first log in with their Jagex Account. The account information is passed onto the opened game so that they don't need to re-enter their credentials once they open the client.

Unless the user logs out from the launcher, the account information is also saved in the launcher for 30 days after the last usage of the launcher, streamlining the process of re-entering the games.

A player may add up to 20 accounts to the launcher and switch between them seamlessly. To manage more than one character, players can click on Manage Characters below the current character profile name.

Settings

Launcher Settings

Within the launcher settings, players can customise their launcher's language. The languages offered are English, German, French, and Portuguese. It is also possible to toggle whether the launcher is opened upon starting up the operating system or not.

Voucher Redemption

Players can enter a Jagex voucher code to unlock in-game content. Players must make sure they are logged into their preferred Jagex Account before entering the voucher code; the content will only be bound towards that account.

On 29 July 2024, Jagex released a blog, informing players that it is no longer possible to convert Bonds to Membership Passcodes as some rulebreakers were using the system to violate the Terms of Service. However, if players already purchased a passcode from an existing Bond redemption prior to the update, the passcode will still be valid and players are able to redeem the Bond directly for 14 days of membership as usual.

What's new?

This section was moved from the external links section at the bottom-left of the settings to the top along with the launcher settings and voucher redemption. Players can see the release notes and their versions dating back to the Open Beta Launch update up until the most recent update, all without clicking on any external links.
