Mummies were an unused monster first added to the RuneScape 2 beta. A Behind the Scenes article from March 2004 promised that one of the upcoming updates would be "A pyramid quest in the desert full of traps, treasure and mummys ."[sic] Presumably, the mummies were created as part of this planned update.

Though this idea was used for a planned update in 2004, development was halted after the intern was fired. The mummies were deleted from the game files with the release of Slayer. Ultimately, new Mummies were released with Desert Treasure I in April 2005, who had a similar appearance.

Trivia

  • The texture of the mummy's bandages is shared with the ball of wool, golden wool, and specimen brush. When the texture was updated with the release of mummies in April 2005, these items appearances changed too.
