Kasonde's journal is an item found by searching the tent east of the large chasm at the southern end of the Kebos Lowlands. Receiving the journal begins The Garden of Death quest.

Written by Kasonde Shaw, the journal tells about a group named the Old Ones, who were once an ancient race that inhabited what is today the Kingdom of Varlamore, and suggests lizardmen architecture was derived from those of the Old Ones.

The notes can be stored in and retrieved from the bookcase in a player-owned house.

For many years now, much of my work has been defined by a single question: who were the Old Ones?

It's a fascinating puzzle, and one with no simple answer. Find your way into the southern Kingdom of Varlamore, and you'll be presented with a huge range of interpretations. Not too surprising when you consider that the kingdom is littered with ruins from this ancient race. However, here in Kourend, the answer is far more interesting. Why? Because there's no answer at all.

The great Arceuus Library has more books than even an immortal would have time to read, but not a single one mentions the Old Ones. How is it that the all-knowing citizens of Arceuus have no knowledge of this mysterious, forgotten race? Do they simply not care? Or are they hiding something?

Head into the Kebos Lowlands, and you'll soon find yourself surrounded by lizardman architecture, or at least, that's what the historians of Arceuus would have you believe. Curiously, they don't seem to have noticed that this architecture bears more than a few similarities to the Old One ruins found in Varlamore.

I have long worked under the assumption that this is no coincidence. While there are no known Old One ruins in Kourend or Kebos, the lizardmen must have adopted this architectural style from somewhere.

My search has been long and arduous, but thanks to a new discovery near Quidamortem, I may finally be close to some answers. It's time to uncover the truth.
