The Misthalin–Morytania War was a conflict between the vampyres of Morytania and the Varrockian army. After taking over all of Hallowvale in the Third Age, Lord Drakan wanted to expand his borders, so he crossed the River Salve and waged war on the Kingdom of Misthalin.[1]
At first, the human kingdom could not stop Lord Drakan's forces, and Lord Drakan made steady progress towards Varrock.[2] Fearing defeat, a group of Seven Priestly Warriors banded together and, with a blessing from Saradomin,[3] inspired the Misthalin defenders to push back Lord Drakan's army.[4]
The war culminated in a final battle near the River Salve at Silvarea.[5] During the battle, the Seven Priestly Warriors cast blessings into the river, creating a barrier which Lord Drakan's armies would be unable to cross.[6] With the sealing of the River Salve, Lord Drakan's armies were repelled and Misthalin rendered secure.[7]
It was believed that all seven of the Seven Priestly Warriors died in the final battle.[8] However, Ivandis Seergaze survived the battle and is thought to have continued his crusade against the vampyres by repeatedly venturing into Morytania.[9] According to a report by Keorgius Feryis in The Sleeping Seven, he was ultimately buried in Morytania itself.
The Paterdomus Temple stands as a marker of the final battle. Given most of the Seven Priestly Warriors died in the final battle, it is unlikely that they were the ones to build the temple, as is sometimes proposed.[7] Rather, the temple was likely built soon after the battle, both to guard the passage across the river and to serve as a warning against the vampyric forces.[10][11]
