The prayer book is a reward from the The Great Brain Robbery quest. By right clicking on it while wearing a holy symbol or hallowed symbol, the player can use Prayer to cure poison at the cost of some prayer points (see #Usages). This can also be done via clicking the hitpoints orb, though potions will be prioritized. Sometimes the poison will only be partially cured if you run out of prayer points.
If lost, the prayer book can be reclaimed in the Edgeville Monastery on the ground floor[UK]1st floor[US] on the south-western bookshelf. The book can also be found on the bookcase in a player-owned house under the title, "Prayer of Deliverance from Poisons."
Although this book has a 'destroy' option, it is possible to get more than one copy. This can be done by keeping the book in your bank while you obtain a new one from your player-owned house bookcase.
The prayer book is always lost on death.
Usages
The prayer book should ideally be used after combat because the monster a player is fighting could poison again, causing the player to drain their prayer points further (to cure poison), and wasting time in which the monster could have been attacked.
The prayer book is most effective in activities where prayers are unused and poison effects are spread further apart, such as the Hallowed Sepulchre and cutting sulliusceps.
An alternative to using the prayer book is to use a form of anti-poison potion, such as a superantipoison or antidote++.
To calculate how many prayer points it will cost to cure, subtract 2 from the poison damage and divide by 2. For example, if someone is poisoned for 7 damage each time, it will take prayer points to cure them. If a player only has a portion of the required prayer points needed to cure poison, they will only be partially cured of poison and the remaining few points will be drained.
The prayer book can also convert venom to regular poison as long as the player has Prayer points left. Doing so costs a maximum of 50 Prayer points. If the player has less than 50 Prayer points left, the remaining Prayer points will be used. The remaining poison amount will be the amount of venom damage dealt most recently.
Transcript
Prayer of Deliverance from Poisons.
Being the full and proper prayer against morbidities of the flesh caused by venoms and potions of both a natural and mystical origin.
Take up your blessed symbol of Saradomin, cast in silver. Hang it about thy neck, where all may see it and thus know of your devotion.
Pray in a loud, clear voice to Saradomin for relief from that which ails you. Appropriate calls for aid should be accompanied by a sacrifice of Prayer energy, with deadlier venoms requiring a greater sacrifice.
Should the supplicant lack piety, they will not be cured.
Should they possess a measure of piety equal or even greater than that which assails them, the poison will be reduced or even cured, while a like amount of Prayer energy will be taken to do this.
Be wary: should the supplicant only partially remove the venom through the application of prayer, their body must still bear the brunt of its wickedness.
