Red vine worm are a quest item in the Fishing Contest, Fairytale I - Growing Pains, and Wanted! quests.

In the Fishing Contest quest, it is used as bait to help you win the contest. The red worm vine can be found west of the Fairy ring code: ALS in McGrubor's Wood. A spade is required to collect red vine worm from the red worm vine.

If the player asks Grandpa Jack about hints to help win the contest, he says Well, you sometimes get these really big fish in the water just by the outflow pipes. I think they're some kind of carp... Try to get a spot round there. The best sort of bait for them is red vine worms. I used to get those from McGrubor's wood, north of here. Just dig around in the red vines up there but be careful of the guard dogs. Red vine worms can be collected without talking to Grandpa Jack.

In the Fairy Tale I - Growing Pains quest, Malignius tells the player that the only way to kill Tanglefoot is with magic secateurs made by bringing three specific items to the Nature Grotto, one of which might be red vine worm, for the Nature spirit to bless a pair of secateurs.

In the Wanted! quest, the player chases Solus Dellagar around Gielinor with the help of Savant, who might pull off and drop a red vine worm as Solus Dollargar teleports as a clue to his next location, which is McGrubor's Wood. This can only be dropped in the first, third, fourth, and sixth locations during the chase.
