Dagannoths are a slayer task assigned by the advanced Slayer masters. Requiring completion of Horror from the Deep to be assigned, Dagannoths are known for their high slayer experience rates and easy task completions. For players who are seeking a more difficult challenge, the Dagannoth Kings are a viable alternative for players of moderate to experienced combat ability.

The weaker variant of Dagannoths can be found within the Lighthouse basement, Jormungand's Prison, and the Catacombs of Kourend. In the first two locations, a dwarf cannon can be used very effectively as the area is multicombat. It is recommended to use a venator bow for this area, as the player will be constantly running back and forth to reload the cannon otherwise. Little food and/or prayer is needed when using melee, though rangers should bring some food as they will be hit more often. Within the Catacombs of Kourend, players can use prayer equipment and a bonecrusher to limit or negate the need for prayer potions.

Players with prayer-boosting melee gear and a decent amount of prayer potions are able to AFK Dagannoths within the Catacombs of Kourend with Auto Retaliate turned on. The only actions that require attention are restoring prayer points and walking away and back into the area should Dagannoths become tolerant towards the player. While players cannot use a dwarf cannon in the Catacombs of Kourend, players can also use a Dinh's Bulwark special attack in conjunction with the 50% special attack regeneration from an equipped Lightbearer ring. Using the special attack from Dinh's Bulwark will help maintain enemy aggression without needing to leave the area to reset the aggression timer.

If players are assigned to kill dagannoth at Waterbirth Island, the only ideal spot would be the main area in the first floor, as the other areas have far too little dagannoth despite being in a multicombat area. The dagannoth here are much stronger compared to other locations, though the player can speed up the task once every few minutes by triggering dagannoth spawn to emerge from the nearby eggs. This will only work while the dagannoth are aggressive, since the eggs will not hatch otherwise.

For players seeking a more rewarding experience, the player can choose to kill the Dagannoth Kings, assuming that the player is on a normal dagannoth task or assigned by Konar quo Maten to slay Dagannoths at the dungeon. It is highly recommended that players have 80 Agility and have completed the Elite Fremennik Diary, as both of these will make the trek to the Kings significantly easier; a level 85 shortcut (boostable) that bypasses the need for a pet rock and rune thrownaxe, and a level 81 shortcut further ahead, both of which cut the run time by ~85%. In addition, completion of the Fremennik Diary will cause the bones the Kings drop to be noted, significantly improving profits; without it, players are likely to lose money unless they manage to roll one of their more valuable drops.

Finally, players can use a Dagannoth task as an opportunity to train Prayer through use of the Expert Reanimation Arceuus spell, if not killing them as part of Konar's task (though heads dropped by dagannoth in the assigned location will still count). Casting this spell on an ensouled dagannoth head within range of the Dark Altar will summon a reanimated dagannoth, which gives a good amount of prayer experience, though combat and slayer experience will suffer as a result.

Dagannoths frequently drop herb seeds. The use of a seed box is recommended.

  • A Reanimated Dagannoth can be summoned by casting the Arceuus Spellbook Spell Expert Reanimation on an Ensouled Dagannoth Head near the Dark Altar or where the creature originally died. Killing the creature grants 936 Prayer experience.
  • If the spell is not cast within a reasonable amount of time of picking up the head, or if the player trades the head or teleports away, then the user will need to reanimate the heads at the Dark Altar in Kourend.
