Weight is a property of items which is primarily related to run energy depletion. A player's weight is calculated as the sum of all items' mass that are equipped and held in the inventory. Having a higher weight will cause run energy to deplete faster, so it is generally recommended to minimize weight during activities that require running.
Players can see the total weight of the items they have equipped or are carrying in their inventory on the Equipment Stats screen, measured in kilograms. Items can weigh fractions of a kilogram, but the Equipment Stats screen will round down to the nearest whole kilogram. For example, a rune platebody weighs 9.979 kg but is displayed as 9 kg, and equipped boots of lightness weigh -4.535 kg but display as -4 kg.
The rate at which energy depletes whilst running scales linearly between 0 kg and 64 kg weight, where having 0 kg weight will deplete a player's run energy at the normal rate and having 64 kg weight will deplete a player's run energy at exactly twice the normal rate. Having a weight outside the range of 0 kg to 64 kg has no additional effect.[1] A player's Agility level contributes to how quickly run energy is restored, but does not affect the rate at which a player's run energy is depleted.
Some activities require players to not weigh more than a certain amount. For example, diving off Port Khazard whilst Freeing Pirate Pete requires no more than 27 kg, and walking on the bridge in Temple of Ikov requires no more than -1 kg.
Stackable items such as runes and coins do not contribute to weight. Some items also reduce weight instead of adding, which is useful for quests or activities that require a lot of running.

Wearing the combination of a spottier cape, boots of lightness, penance gloves, graceful hood, graceful top and graceful legs allows the player to have weight as low as -27.605 kg. Whilst underwater, this can be further lowered to the minimum possible value of -41.605 kg using a full inventory of pufferfish. Weight reducing equipment must be worn to activate the weight reduction, with the exception of pufferfish.
Greatest weight
The greatest weight possible a player can weigh at any given time is 1,025.885 kg. With all Quest items and Event items the max. weight is 1,034.492kg. The items required in order to reach this weight are:

Trivia
- In RuneScript, the game's compiler accepts other units of measuring weight, using pounds (lb), ounces (oz) and grams (g).[2] Many items are assigned weights in different units within RuneScript, but are automatically converted to kilograms in-game. For example, the gold helmet is assigned a weight of 70 lbs, but it is converted to 31.751 kg in-game.
- Stackable items can also have assigned weights, but they are overridden by the game's code to be 0 kg. For example, coins have an assigned weight of 2 grams (0.002 kg).
