Lassar Undercity is located beneath the Ruins of Camdozaal. It is visited during Desert Treasure II.
The area is instanced in both the pre- and post-quest versions. Logging out in the Undercity will bring players back to the rope leading to the palace.
History
Lassar was a Zarosian fortress that stood at the height of Zaros' empire around the Second Age. After Zaros was betrayed by Zamorak, the gods worked to remove all traces of Zaros from Gielinor, one of which was Lassar itself. Sometime around the Third Age, Imcando dwarves, who had been displaced from Imcandoria following its fall, were promised new land by Saradomin if they helped him besiege Lassar. The siege was successful, and the dwarves converted Lassar into their new city of Camdozaal. The city lasted into the Fifth Age between Years 42 and 62, when it was attacked by barbarians, who saw magic and the use of runes as an affront to the gods.[1]
Lassar's undercity was sealed off and remained hidden, and thus it was spared from the destruction but was completely buried and isolated underneath Camdozaal. The undercity was divided into multiple sections: a residential area, a scientific area, the plaza, a palace, a cathedral, and a sewer system. During the Third Age, the Mahjarrat Sliske brought a mysterious totem made of a strange black stone to Lassar in order to experiment on it, as he believed it would hold the answers to the Shadow Realm.[2] He sent The Whisperer, a Zarosian siren, to the area to ensure research on the totem could proceed without any possible delay.[3]
Findings on the totem showed that it made the Shadow Realm in the area even more dangerous than it normally was despite attempts to contain it with a protective barrier.[4] Following research and the then impending invasion of Imcando dwarves, Sliske ordered the Whisperer to remove the barrier and deal with the researchers in any way she desired.[5] She sent false orders from the city's High Magister to seal the Undercity and slew everyone that remained,[6] before removing the protective barrier on the totem with Sliske's assistance. The removal of the totem's protections would prove to be extremely dangerous, corrupting many of Lassar's inhabitants[7], including the Whisperer herself. After that, she would head to the city's now-sunken cathedral, where she would not be disturbed until the Fifth Age, when an adventurer arrived and slew her for her medallion to open an Ancient Vault in the desert.

Trivia
- Entering the city while having the ring of visibility or ring of shadows equipped will result to a dialogue saying "A strange magic rips your ring of visibility/shadows from your finger."
- Likewise, trying to equip the ring while in the city will result to a dialogue saying "A strange magic prevents you from putting the ring on."
- Using a lockpick on a chest along the southernmost wall of the Science District will result in you being teleported to various ghost-filled locations within the district. The player can either teleport out, or kill every ghost in each area (~10 high level ghosts total) to proceed. Eventually the player will wind up back near the start of the Lassar Undercity.
