The ash sanctifier is a reward from completing the Hard Kourend & Kebos Diary, where players can then claim it from Tyss near the Dark Altar. To use it, it must be charged with death runes, gaining 10 charges per death rune at a cost of 16 per charge. Un-charging it will return the unused death runes.

When charged and carried in the inventory, the ash sanctifier will automatically purify demonic ashes that are dropped from demonic creatures upon death, granting the player half the Prayer experience they would have received from scattering the ashes themselves, or the full amount if the Elite Kourend & Kebos Diary is completed, consuming one charge in the process. This effect can be toggled with the right-click "Activity" option.

On PvM death, the sanctifier always preserves its charges. When unprotected in PvP below level 20 Wilderness, the sanctifier is sent to the player's gravestone and does not lose charges. When unprotected in PvP above level 20 Wilderness the charges and sanctifier are lost but nothing is given to the killer.
