Spirit flakes are a drop received from looting the reward pool after defeating Tempoross. They can be stored in a tackle box.
They are used in Fishing to give a 50% chance of yielding double catch everywhere, excluding Tempoross, Fishing Trawler, Chambers of Xeric, and Drift Net Fishing at the cost of one flake per fish caught, although no additional experience is given. This effect stacks with the Rada's blessing allowing for an additional 2%-8% chance of catching double the fish, depending on which tier of the Kourend & Kebos Diary the player has completed.[1] You lose a flake per fish caught regardless of whether you get a single or double catch. Spirit flakes do not increase the rate at which bait is consumed, nor replace the need for other forms of bait. For example, if you are fly fishing you will need both feathers and spirit flakes to catch trout/salmon with the spirit flakes bonus.
1,200 spirit flakes can be exchanged to upgrade a piece of the Angler's outfit to its spirit version by talking to Gita Prymes (4,800 spirit flakes for the full set). Additionally 3,000 spirit flakes can be used on the heron pet to change it into the great blue heron.
Spirit flakes are unable to activate with only one empty inventory slot remaining as it would not be able to fit a second fish. Because of this, you'll use slightly fewer Spirit Flakes than bait (while using methods which require bait).

Trivia
- While one flake is consumed per fish caught, if a player with 1 free inventory space catches a fish, no flakes will be consumed and the catch won't be potentially doubled. This avoids wasting a flake on a catch that either wouldn't be doubled, or would drop to the ground.
