Game Jam I was a Game Jam that took place during the week of 4 April 2022, and the first of a now bi-annual tradition.[1]

Most of the projects were listed in the April 2022 Gielinor Gazette, and discussed during a livestream event on 12 May 2022.

Projects

Dogs of Gielinor

Mod Skylark, Mod Oasis, Mod Grub, Mod Havik, Mod Jerv, Mod Light, Mod Torrance, and Mod Wolfy worked on recreating dog followers released along with Summoning in RuneScape.[2][3] The dog followers would be similar to cats, in that they would be a reward from a short quest and could be interacted with by the player. They would also start out as puppies, similar to how cats start out as kittens.[4] Six of the dog breeds (bulldog, dalmation, greyhound, labrador, sheepdog, and terrier) were part of the unused Summoning assets in the Old School RuneScape cache. An additional five breeds (beagle, corgi, husky, pug, and Shiba Inu) and a pet version of the stray dog were also shown. [5]

For both the original and new breeds, there were two recolours along with the base models shown.

Last Man Standing Modes

Mod Ash and Mod Goblin worked on adding alternate modes and greater build customization for Last Man Standing.[6]

Tasakaal Trials

A wave-based combat minigame worked on by Mod Husky, Mod Elena, Mod Arcane, Mod Ry, Mod Halo, Mod Jerv, Mod Grub, Mod West and Mod Brow.[7][8] After each wave the player would have to decide whether to leave the trials or continue onwards, risking all their rewards thus far as the waves get progressively more difficult. After a standard wave the player would be presented with a series of options on how to either buff the enemies or debuff the player character, further increasing the difficulty each wave. Completing a boss wave would provide a buff to the player to help carry them through the rest of the waves. Rewards would include an untradeable best-in-slot piece of equipment that would upgrade after completing each stage of the trials, a tradeable best-in-slot piece of equipment as a potential reward from each wave, and a chance for a pet based on the boss of the trial's final wave.

Player Owned Farms

Mod Argo, Mod Maylea, and Mod Tide worked on an expansion to the Farming skill. Player-owned farms would allow the player to take care of and raise animals, similar to the Player-owned farm in RuneScape. Fully grown animals could be sold for a new type of currency called "beans", which could then be used to purchase rewards. Rewards purchasable with beans include:

  • Ponds — a type of farming patch for fish. Fish roe can be placed in ponds (obtained by gutting the desired fish type with a knife), and would eventually grow into adult fish, allowing players to amass a large amount of fish without needing to buy bait and manually fish them. However, fish from player-owned farms would not grant Fishing experience.
  • Beehives — houses for bees placed next to flower patches. Bees would produce honey as long as the flower patch they are next to is fully grown. The higher tier of beehive, the more honey received. Different flowers would give different types of honey, which would have varying uses, such as being used in teas or potions.

Temporary/Seasonal HiScores

Mod Boko worked on a version of the HiScores that would be categorised by time limitations, such as monthly and weekly HiScores for skilling, and new boss HiScores for the fastest boss kill times.

Port Piscarilius Rework

Mod Ed, Mod Errol, Mod Grub, Mod Lenny, Mod Mack, Mod Nin, and Mod West worked on a graphical rework to Port Piscarilius and its surroundings.[10] Similar to the Hosidius and Shayzien reworks, Port Piscarilius would see improvements to the layout and visual style of the city, with improvements to existing content. A new Crafting training method, the Port Piscarilius Shipyard, was also mentioned. Players would use materials to craft high-quality ship parts, and use them to fix boats that entered the shipyard for repairs. The rework would also possibly feature a bridge that would connect Port Piscarilius to the mainland via the Piscatoris Fishing Colony.

The Return of Twisted Tales

Mod Ed worked on the next iteration in the Twisted Tales series, a quest called The Garden of Death set in the Kebos Lowlands.[11][12]

Mod Lenny, Mod Nin, and Mod Mack worked on additional ideas for Twisted Tales, including:

  • An Inside Job — The player is hired to rob a house in Hosidius. Humorously, they would then be hired to catch the thief that was responsible for the robbery.
  • Grandma's Kisses — The player agrees to find a missing pet, before things take a grim turn…
  • Making Ends Meat — The player investigates the water supply of Land's End after it suddenly turns pink, and breaks into the basement of a man called Lan the Butcher.

Gnomeball Manager

Mod Daizong and Mod Dylan worked on a fantasy-based sports management card game revolving around Gnome Ball. Players would find and earn cards by participating in other activities around the world. These cards would provide things like new athletes, upgrade items, and special plays. Cards would be used to build a team that would then be pitched against other players or AI opponents in tournaments, leagues and friendly matches.

Woodcutting: Way of the Forester

Mod Squid worked on an expansion to Woodcutting that would focus on making the skill more social. After completing a tutorial with the Freaky Forester, the player would be able to encounter dynamic events while chopping trees. Key features would include "mighty" trees that had a chance of spawning outside the Woodcutting Guild and would despawn based off a timer, cosmetic and utility items, campfires that would boost the player's gathering skills, and teas made with leaves obtained from trees.

Wilderness Expansion

An extension to the north of the Wilderness worked on by Mod Soffan,[13] Mod Ayiza,[14] Mod Roq and Mod Goblin. The extension would be entered by crossing the Bridge of Fate north of the Deserted Keep. In this area, players would be able to attack each other without combat level restrictions. Other concepts for the extension include a Wilderness city full of exiled Fremenniks, a novice quest intended to introduce players to PvP combat, new resource areas, an expanded version of the Wilderness Agility Course, a new type of impling, new bosses (including a world boss), and a minigame that would work like the old version of Bounty Hunter.

Travel to the Fremennik city would be possible via an upgrade to the enchanted lyre, and travel out of the Wilderness to Rellekka would be possible via a boat found at the far north of the city.

Trading Card Game

Mod Sarnie worked on the OSRS Trading Card Game (TCG), a fast-paced PvP minigame. Players would use equipment and item cards to power up their character, while watching out for the "Event Deck", ultimately culminating in one player beating the other. Cards would be obtained by winning games, buying them from an NPC named Teasy Gee (a pun on "TCG", the abbreviation for "trading card game"), participating in other activities around the world, and by trading them with other players.
