The Jal-nib-rek (roughly translated as Foreign Nibbler Baby/Young) is a Jal-Nib dropped by TzKal-Zuk upon completion of the Inferno. The standard drop rate is 1/100, but this is increased to 1/75 if TzKal-Zuk is defeated while on a Slayer task. Players may also exchange their infernal capes by speaking to TzHaar-Ket-Keh for a 1/100 chance of obtaining the pet. Providing a player defeats TzKal-Zuk while on a slayer task for a 1/75 chance of the pet, and hands in their cape, the overall chance of receiving the pet from either the boss or the cape is approximately 1/43.

Players can right click "Metamorphosis" to change between the Jal-Nib and TzRek-Zuk, which is a smaller version of TzKal-Zuk.

When a player receives the pet, it will automatically try to appear as their follower. At the same time, a message in the chatbox will state You have a funny feeling like you're being followed. However, if a player receives a pet while having a follower out (for example, a cat), it will be placed into their inventory. When this occurs, the message in the chatbox will instead state You feel something weird sneaking into your backpack.

If a player's inventory is full and they have a follower already, they will not receive the pet; it must instead be claimed from Probita in East Ardougne for a reclaim token, which costs 1,000,000 coins.

On death, if a player loses their pet (as a follower or in your inventory) it will wander around the area for 30 seconds before despawning. Even if the player returns in time, the pet cannot be picked up, and can be reclaimed from Probita for a reclaim token.

Trivia

  • The text when receiving the pet from a cape gamble is: "Luck be a TzHaar tonight. Jal-Nib-Rek is yours." This is a reference to the song "Luck Be a Lady" from the musical Guys and Dolls.
  • TzRek-Zuk had a festive override wearing a santa hat during the 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 Christmas events. Jal-Nib-Rek also had a festive override for the 2023 event.
