Description	The Abyss: a deadly realm filled with ancient power. The secrets of this plane have long eluded the denizens of the Wizards' Tower, though some would give anything to properly uncover them. One of these wizards is Persten. While many in the Tower aren't convinced by her unorthodox methods, a recent discovery means she may now hold the key to the knowledge they crave the most. However, nothing is simple when the Abyss is involved, and Persten won't be able to get to the bottom of her discovery without your help...

Walkthrough

Starting Off

• Speak with Wizard Persten. ( 2•1)…

  2	What's a wizard doing in Al Kharid?
  1	Yes.

  Complete all dialogue until you receive the eye amulet.
• Go west through the Al Kharid gate, then run towards the hops patch and purchase a bucket of compost from the farmer Vasquen. ( 3•2•1)…

  3	Can you sell me something?
  2	A bucket of compost.
  1	Yes, that sounds like a fair price.

• Run towards south-eastern Varrock, using the fence shortcut along the way, and empty the bucket of compost.
• Use the eye amulet on the Mage of Zamorak at the Altar of Chaos in south-eastern Varrock.
• Speak to the Tea Seller at the eastern entrance to Varrock. ( 3)…

  3	Could I have a strong cup of tea?

• Run south and enter the gated area in south-eastern Varrock and fill your bucket at the well.
• Use the strong cup of tea on the Mage of Zamorak and have him teleport you to the Abyss. ( 1)…

  Yes.

• Use the eye amulet on the Dark Mage.
• Now there will be runic energies surrounding the rift.
  • Touch each colour until they all turn white; the order is randomised every time the player resets the speedrun.
  • Remember the order as you try out different combinations, as it will reset with each failed order.
  • You will need to re-press the correct energies in the same order before you can guess what the next one will be.
• Speak to the Dark Mage to receive an abyssal incantation.
• Head south-west and enter the fire rift.
• Exit the Fire Altar and make your way west to Wizard Persten. ( 1)…

• At the Wizards' Tower, climb down into the basement and use the abyssal incantation on Archmage Sedridor.
• Climb up the ladder, then the stairs once, and speak to Wizard Traiborn. ( 2)…

  2	I need your apprentices to help with an incantation.

• Speak with Apprentice Felix, Tamara, and Cordelia in no particular order and *complete all dialogue* until you can view their riddles.
• Speak to Traiborn, and answer 11 when prompted. ( 2)…

  2	I think I know what a thingummywut is!

• Speak to Archmage Sedridor or Wizard Persten in the basement. ( 1)…

  1	Let's do it.

• Speak to each of the apprentices in no particular order.
• Speak to Wizard Persten. The minigame tutorial begins after the cutscene.
  • If you get lost at any time, you can just follow the yellow arrow prompts () throughout the tutorial. The following guide will skip some steps and save you a bit of time.
  • You can move on to the next step as soon as the yellow arrow location changes, even if dialogue with an NPC is incomplete.

Guardians of the Rift Tutorial

• Talk to Apprentice Tamara.
• Talk to Apprentice Felix.
• Grab a weak cell from the table.
• Grab the bronze pickaxe and chisel from the ground.
• Talk to Apprentice Tamara.
• Place the weak cell in the slot on the ground.
• Talk to Apprentice Tamara.
• Talk to Apprentice Felix.
• Take a weak cell and use it to power up an elemental guardian.
• Take another weak cell and use it to power up a catalytic guardian.
• Talk to Apprentice Tamara.
• Run west and mine 5 guardian fragments.
  • Any of the guardian parts or guardian remains can be mined.
  • You can save some time running towards the table by starting to mine a rock, then running south and clicking another rock within 8 ticks.
• Craft 5 guardian essence at the west table.
• Grab an uncharged cell from the east table.
• Talk to Apprentice Tamara.
• Enter the Guardian of Mind, craft runes, and leave the mind altar.
• Talk to Apprentice Tamara.
• Place the weak cell in the slot on the ground.
• Talk to The Great Guardian.
• Talk to Apprentice Tamara.
• Run west and mine 5 guardian fragments.
• Craft 5 guardian essence at the west table.
• Grab an uncharged cell from the east table.
• Enter the Guardian of Water, craft runes, and leave the water altar.
• Talk to The Great Guardian.
• Talk to Apprentice Tamara.
• Run south and power up an elemental guardian.
• Talk to Apprentice Tamara.
• Run west and mine 5 guardian fragments.
• Craft 5 guardian essence at the west table.
• Grab an uncharged cell from the east table.
• Enter the water altar by using the portal talisman (water) on the Guardian of Water, craft runes, and leave the water altar.
• Place the medium cell in the slot on the ground.
• Talk to Apprentice Tamara.
• Talk to The Great Guardian.
• Upon completion of the tutorial, speak to Archmage Sedridor to finish the quest.
