Amoxliatl/Strategies

After completion of The Heart of Darkness, players can fight Amoxliatl as a regular boss encounter within the Ruins of Tapoyauik, albeit slightly stronger than when fought during the quest.
Getting there
The two easiest ways to reach the Ruins of Tapoyauik include:
- Pendant of Ates - Teleport to the Twilight Temple statue outside the Tower of Ascension after activating it.
- Quetzal Transport System - Travel to the Salvager Overlook and head south (after building landing site) or travel to Quetzacalli Gorge and pass the large gate.
By returning to the chamber with the statues and murals within Tapoyauik, players can use the lift platform in the centre (which appears after completion of the quest) to ascend to the Tower of Ascension. This unlocks a permanent shortcut which allows quick access to Amoxliatl.
Fight overview
Amoxliatl uses three different attacks. Her standard magic attack summons ice spikes on the player's current tile and around the arena. Protect from Magic will protect against the initial attack, but the ice spikes additionally deal typeless damage. Finally, an icy pool will be left on the tile where the player was originally standing on that will deal 6-10 damage per tick.
After every 2-4 standard attacks, Amoxliatl will use one of two special attacks; which she chooses initially is random, but will alternate between the two afterward.
- Unstable Ice - 1-4 blocks of unstable ice are launched near the player, indicated by the game message Amoxliatl forms some unstable ice blocks around you.. If not destroyed within 15 ticks (9 seconds), all remaining ice blocks will shatter, causing icy pools to form within 3x3 of where they were, and healing the boss (16-25) for each block shattered. The unstable ice blocks can only be destroyed with melee, and melee attacks against them will result in a max hit with an attack speed of 1. It is possible to hit Amoxliatl and unstable ice with the same swing of a scythe of Vitur, capitalizing on the increased attack speed to do extra damage to the boss while also not incurring additional delay for the first regular attack after the final ice block is destroyed. After destroying an ice block, the player may eat a piece of food without incurring the normal attack delay, should they need to heal.
- Icicle Crash: Amoxliatl will first disable all the player's active prayers before launching an icicle attack directly toward the player, dealing up to 34 damage (which can be negated by reactivating Protect from Magic). This attack is indicated by the game message Amoxliatl disables your prayers and launches an icicle attack!
A good tip for the fight is to run to any two tiles from wherever they are standing after Amoxliatl begins her standard attack to drag her forward, then attack her again to stand on a new non-icy tile.
-
The player steps two tiles back to drag Amoxliatl and resume attacking on a non-icy tile.
-
Melee weapons will instantly destroy unstable ice blocks without an attack cooldown.
Equipment
The boss has a -2 flat armour and is weak to crush, so it is recommended to use a crush weapon that deals damage with multiple hitsplats such as the scythe of Vitur, dual macuahuitl, or glacial temotli. Torag's hammers are not recommended, as their slower attack speed means that they perform worse than a dragon mace and dragon defender, assuming all other gear is equivalent.
Given the relatively low defence of the boss, strength bonus should be prioritized.
Although the boss has a 30% elemental weakness to fire, it is better to take melee as the ice blocks can only take damage from melee sources. This means taking thralls is recommended.
