Ava's device
![](/img_auth.php/Ava%27s_Devices_interface.png)
Ava's devices are a series of backpacks that attract a percentage of the ammunition fired during Ranged combat. They can be obtained from Ava, requiring the quest Animal Magnetism, as well as a minimum ranged level. There are three devices, each attracting a higher percentage of fired ammunition:
Ava's attractor, requiring level 30 Ranged
Ava's accumulator, requiring level 50 Ranged
Ava's assembler, requiring level 70 Ranged and a Vorkath's head (obtainable after Dragon Slayer II)
These ammunition recovery benefits can be received in Castle Wars and Soul Wars by using the appropriate Ava's device or Max cape variant on Lanthus and on Nomad, respectively.
All the devices are able to recover arrows, bolts, darts, javelins, throwing knives, throwing axes, and toktz-xil-ul. Ranged ammunition that is always consumed upon use cannot be recovered.

Metallic interference
Note that the ammunition recovery effect does not work if the player is wearing metallic torso armour (most melee armour, Ahrim's robetop, etc.) due to the metal causing interference with the magnet. Certain body slot items, despite appearing to be made out of metal, do not interfere with Ava's devices. The following table shows which items interfere with Ava's devices, and which items are compatible:
Burping undead fowl
Approximately every 3.5 minutes, an Ava's device can attract a random metallic item, provided that the player has moved at least three tiles since the last pickup.[1] Players may also commune with the device to tell the chicken to stop filling their inventory with metallic junk, by selecting the right-click "Commune" option on the Ava's device.
When left enabled however, this feature can cause a belching reflex to occur inside of the backpack under very specific conditions.[2] If the undead chicken attempts to attract a metallic item while the player's inventory is full; no worn item slots are left open for the item to automatically equip into; and no items may be dropped to the ground in the area the player is currently located; then it will be guzzled up by the undead chicken instead, triggering the following game message to appear in the chatbox:
Ava's contraption makes an odd burping sound.
These conditions can be met in the following locations:
- In the player-owned house while the building mode is turned on.
- In the player-owned house while sitting on a chair or bench built in the seating space.
- Deep underwater off the northern shore of Fossil Island.
- While swimming amidst the wreck left by a failed Fishing Trawler excursion.
- The lobby area of the Chambers of Xeric.
