Bandits are attackable NPCs, which are found at the Kharidian Desert Bandit Camp. They are descendants of the followers of Zaros who were persecuted by the followers of Saradomin and Zamorak, and bear a grudge toward their followers for this reason. They can be pickpocketed at level 53 Thieving, yielding coins, antipoison, or lockpicks. Each successful pickpocket awards 79.4 Thieving experience.
Due to the grudge they hold, if a player wears a Saradomin/Zamorakian item and approaches a bandit, they will shout "Time to die, Saradominist filth!"/"Prepare to suffer, Zamorakian scum!" and become aggressive toward the player. In addition, if a player attacks other bandits, the bandits will exclaim "You picked the wrong place to start trouble!" and become aggressive towards the player.
Some players use this mechanic as a way to passively train their Combat skills. Players will wear a God-affiliated item, equip strong melee gear, and wait as the bandits attack them. This allows players to passively gain large amounts of Combat experience, as the bandits will never stop attacking the player. AFK experience rates from bandits range from 30k to 70k experience per hour depending on levels. A Ring of life or Guthan the Infested's equipment will reduce the risk of being killed if the wearer remains AFK for too long.
