Main accounts (or mains) are the primary player accounts with no skill or quest restrictions. They typically train all free-to-play skills, which allows them to achieve the highest combat and total levels among all build types. Mains can achieve up to 126 combat level.
In the context of account builds and player-versus-player activities, high level accounts—typically with evenly distributed combat skills—are referred to as mains. As opposed to the combat pures, main accounts train skills such as attack, defence, and prayer past the point of unlocking the best available items and prayers without any restrictions. As these accounts tend to be on the defensive side, their lack of specialization on PvP and lack of focus on damage output leaves them less successful on lower combat levels, where they have to complete with optimised accounts such as the 1 defence pures or rune pures. However, they are the most common high level build, since specialised accounts tend to max out their non-restricted combat skills before reaching the final combat level brackets. Maxed mains are particularly common in PvP combat.
Equipment
With no restriction on defence or ranged, main accounts can wear rune armour and full green d'hide armour after getting 40 defence and ranged levels respectively. They also have access to other items with defence requirements such as the gold decorative boots that provide a small strength bonus. Main accounts can use all free-to-play weapons including elemental staves, maple bows, and rune weapons.
For a complete equipment guide, refer to the rune pure and the free-to-play PvP equipment articles. Note that the rune pures at 40 attack and defence can use all free-to-play items that main accounts have access to.
Training
With no restrictions on combat skills, these accounts can follow the standard free-to-play combat training methods. In particular, thanks to the high defence levels, main accounts can be trained on aggressive NPCs such as flesh crawlers or giant spiders for long periods of time.
Combat style
Depending on the used combat styles, in player-versus-player combat main accounts can use the same techniques as ranged-melee hybrids, melee pures, or magic pures. However, due to their defensive capabilities, they can employ much riskier tactics.
Melee fights, often without armour, are very common among maxed mains in the arranged 1-vs-1 duels on PvP worlds.
