The rune scimitar is a scimitar requiring level 40 Attack to wield. It can be created with 2 runite bars at level 90 Smithing , or dropped by various monsters such as Zamorak warriors or Fire giants .
It is the second strongest scimitar available behind the Dragon scimitar , and the strongest scimitar in free-to-play . Furthermore, it is considered the strongest melee weapon in most situations in free-to-play due to its unmatched attack and strength bonuses for its attack speed.
Ironmen may prefer to create a barronite mace or purchase a rune sword from the Champions' Guild (requiring 32 Quest points ). Members -only alternatives to the rune scimitar include the rapier (after Cabin Fever ), brine sabre , and ancient staff (after Desert Treasure I ).
Players can attach a Guthix , Saradomin or Zamorak ornament kit , obtained from beginner Treasure Trails , to create a Guthix , Saradomin and Zamorak rune scimitar , respectively. This only alters its appearance, and gives no stat enhancements, though the Saradomin and Zamorak variants will provide protection from the respective factions in the God Wars Dungeon . It can be dismantled at any time, returning the scimitar and ornament kit.
