Molten glass is used in the Crafting and Construction skills, as well as some quests, to form glass items. It is created through the Crafting skill by using a bucket of sand and soda ash on a furnace, granting 20 Crafting experience. This only requires level 1 Crafting. Alternatively, players can use the Lunar spell Superglass Make, which combines all buckets of sand and all seaweed or soda ash in the player's inventory into molten glass, granting 10 Crafting experience per pair of items.
Molten glass is used in some quests such as Observatory Quest, Horror from the Deep, Wanted!, Desert Treasure I, Another Slice of H.A.M. and The Fremennik Exiles. Although you can't buy molten glass at any shop in the game, you can still buy buckets of sand and soda ash from the charter ship shops. This is especially useful for ironmen, who could buy both items and then smelt them in a furnace.
Uses - Comparing Molten Glass yield and XP
When using soda ash and buckets of sand in a furnace the molten glass yield is
1.0 molten glass per soda ash and bucket of sand.
When using Superglass Make with soda ash and buckets of sand the molten glass yield is
1.3 molten glass per soda ash and bucket of sand.
When used on a fire, giant seaweed turns into six soda ash upon successfully cooking, rather than just one given by normal seaweed. You can however fail, resulting in only one soda ash. Note that Cooking gauntlets do not decrease the cooking fail chance, however the Hosidius Kitchen cooking range effect still applies.
When used in conjunction with the Superglass Make spell, giant seaweed similarly acts as six regular seaweed and gives 60 Crafting experience per seaweed when cast. The combination of two giant seaweed and 12 buckets of sand yields on average 1.45 molten glass per bucket of sand, while the combination of three giant seaweed and 18 buckets of sand yields an average of 1.6 glass per sand, although with the latter some of the glass will fall on the floor as it overflows from the inventory. If it is not picked up, it results in an average of 1.45 glass per sand. Not picking up the glass will result in a higher rate of production, at a higher cost of materials. Since both methods using three giant seaweed and 18 buckets result in both a higher yield and rate, the combination of two giant seaweed and 12 buckets of sand is not recommended.
To increase input resource efficiency, Superglass Make can be cast in Ferox Enclave with an open looting bag to allow for quickly picking up the extra glass that goes on the floor. However, there are downsides, you cannot use spellbook resizing when at ferox and, this will reduce the amount of glass-per-hour produced.
The average Crafting experience per giant seaweed and rate of glass production varies:
- For an average of 1.45 glass per sand (two giant seaweed and 12 buckets of sand), each giant seaweed equals 538.5 experience when making lantern lenses or 669 experience when making empty light orbs. Using this method can produce glass at a rate of approximately 10,000 per hour;
- For an average of 1.45 glass per sand (three giant seaweed and 18 buckets of sand without picking up the excess), each giant seaweed equals 538.5 experience when making lantern lenses or 669 experience when making empty light orbs. Using this method can produce glass at a rate of approximately 15,000 per hour;
- For an average of 1.6 glass per sand (three giant seaweed and 18 buckets of sand and picking up the excess), each giant seaweed equals 588 experience when making lantern lenses or 732 experience when making empty light orbs. Using this method can produce glass at a rate of approximately 13,500 per hour.
These numbers include the experience from casting Superglass Make.

Crafting table
Molten glass can be made into glass items using the Crafting skill by using a glassblowing pipe on them. Each item requires one piece of molten glass to create. At peak efficiency it would seem just over 1800 glass items can be crafted in one hour.

Notes
- All the ingredients for making molten glass (seaweed and sand) can be found on the island of Entrana, except buckets, but there is a Tool leprechaun found near the Hops patch on Entrana from whom you can withdraw buckets if you have them. There is a sandpit, seaweed spawns, a range for cooking seaweed into soda ash and a furnace to make the molten glass. There is even a glassblowing pipe spawn in a nearby house.
