The oily fishing rod is a unique fishing rod made during the Heroes' Quest by using blamish oil with a normal fishing rod. However, players do not need to have started the quest to make this item.

An oily fishing rod can be used with fishing bait to catch raw lava eels and infernal eels. The oily fishing rod cannot be used to obtain the ring of charos from the Edgeville well when you are required to place it in there during Garden of Tranquillity. It also cannot be used during the competition in the Fishing Contest. Sacred eels cannot be caught with this rod. It also cannot be used to fish up any fish on the fishing platform required for the Ardougne medium diary. It also cannot be used to catch the Hemenster Whitefish during Land of The Goblins.

The equipable version of the fishing rod, the oily pearl fishing rod, can be made by using blamish oil on the pearl fishing rod (bought with molch pearls from Alry the Angler).

Note that this item is also used during a hard wilderness diary task.

If lost, players can make a new one by buying a sample bottle from the general store in Canifis, obtaining a thin snail or fat snail and using it with a pestle and mortar, combining the blamish snail slime with a harralander potion(unf) to make blamish oil, then using it on a fishing rod.

Players can remove the oil from the fishing rod with a cleaning cloth.

Players can also also add this version of the fishing rod to their Tackle box.

Oily fishing rod is converted to coins upon death.
