The ring of Charos is a magical ring that charms certain NPCs when worn, unlocking different dialogue options and benefits. Charos, the creator of the ring, used it to enhance his prowess as a diplomat and convince the weak-minded to do his bidding. The Wise Old Man says that anyone who uses the ring must already possess some kind of diplomatic skill for it to work.
The unawakened form is awarded upon completion of Creature of Fenkenstrain. This version of the ring can only be used to deceive werewolves into believing the wearer is one of them; wearing it is necessary to access the Werewolf Agility Course. During the Garden of Tranquillity quest, the Wise Old Man activates it into the ring of Charos(a), allowing the player to charm and convince other people into helping you.
The ring is lost upon death. If lost, it can be recovered by pickpocketing Dr Fenkenstrain. After Creature of Fenkenstrain, he resides on the top floor of Fenkenstrain's Castle; partway through The Great Brain Robbery, he permanently moves to the basement of the Harmony Island windmill. Note that if the player throws the ring into the Edgeville well during Garden of Tranquility, another one cannot be claimed from Fenkenstrain during the quest, and the only way to get it back is to use a Fishing rod on the well. Once the ring is activated for the first time, it will always be activated when recovered, and the original version becomes unobtainable.
