The Ruinous Powers are a set of ancient Zarosian prayers unlocked by selecting the Ruinous Powers relic in Trailblazer Reloaded League that can be accessed separately from the normal prayer book. Originally intended to be obtained as a reward from completing Desert Treasure II - The Fallen Empire, with some being unlocked via boss drops, these prayers had powerful effects aimed at superseding the existing prayers in the game.

Development history
A proposal for a new prayer book, obtained as a Desert Treasure II reward, was first put to a poll by Jagex on 20 December 2022.[1] Players voted in favour of the original poll by 86.3%.[2]
On 14 February 2023, a blog post was released detailing the proposed rewards for the Desert Treasure II quest. As part of this blog post, Jagex created a poll which included a question on whether the new prayers should focus mostly on combat, on skilling, or a balance of both.[3] A majority of players voted that the prayers should focus on a balance of both combat and skilling.[4]
On 3 March, Jagex released a new blog post detailing their vision for the new prayer book. This initial proposal outlined 22 new prayers, which included utility, combat, protection, overhead, and skilling prayers.[5]
“ | Our task is simple. Make a new Prayer book that doesn't outright overpower the Prayers we all know and love, bake in the common themes from hundreds of community suggestions, make something that feels rewarding for skilling-focused and combat-focused content, and deliver on some elements of high-risk vs. high-reward without making the new set of Prayers inapproachable. Simple, really. | ” |
— Jagex[5]

After player feedback, Jagex adjusted the proposal in an updated blog post, removing the Conservation, Ancient Abundance, Ancient Offering, and Overprotection prayers, and reworking several others.[6] A poll subsequently followed, giving approval to run a beta where players could try out the proposed new prayers.[7]
On 12 April, beta worlds became available to test out the Desert Treasure II rewards, which included the Ruinous Powers.[8] The worlds could be accessed for just one week, after which a blog post was released noting that Jagex were considering changes to the prayers to ensure that they do not impact the long-term health of the game.[9]
A second beta begun on 14 June, which included several changes to address player feedback.[10] This beta was intended to run until 21 June, however Jagex announced on 19 June that they would instead be shelving the Ruinous Powers.[11] In a lengthy post, they explained that their original vision for the content had "fallen to the wayside", that the Ruinous Powers felt like "power creep for the sake of it", and that shelving the content is the best decision for the game. However, they also made it clear that despite Ruinous Powers not being added to the game, the door is still open on new prayers and prayer books to be added in the future.
