Mage Training Arena/Alchemist's Playground
In the Alchemist's Playground, six cupboards are searched for items which players cast low or high level alchemy on to convert into coins. The coins are then deposited into the Coin Collector. For each 100 coins deposited, the player will be rewarded with 1 Pizazz point and 10 coins, as well as 2 Magic experience per coin deposited.
Mechanics
- The items are always found in the same clockwise order:
- The positions of the items in the cupboards, as well as the number of coins granted from casting an alchemy spell on them, is randomised every 60 seconds. The Alchemy Guardian will announce this just before each time it occurs.
- Each item gets one of the following values: 1, 5, 8, 15, and 30. Item values are displayed in a table at the top right of the screen.
- Though the positions of the items within the cupboards will always change, the items will always appear in the same order listed above. Thus it is less of a "randomisation" and more of a "rotation" of items.
- Coins and most items that produce coins, like coin pouches, cannot be brought into the room. One exception to this is the Infinite money bag that was added with Crack the Clue III.
- Attempting to deposit coins created through other means, such as the Infinite money bag, will result in the coins being removed from the player's inventory and a chat message stating "You didn't create those coins from the items in this room!" When this happens no Pizazz points will be awarded.
- When values change, a green arrow will occasionally appear next to an item in the table which means that casting an alchemy spell on that item will not consume any runes.
- Low and high level alchemy always yield the same amount of coins; the only difference is the amount of Magic experience granted. Additionally, the low level alchemy spell is given the same cooldown as the high level variant.
- 1 Pizazz point is awarded for every 100 coins deposited, and any extra coins that carry over a 100 coins threshold gives a chance of receiving extra point.
- For example, depositing 250 coins would give 2 points and 50% chance of receiving an extra point.
- Leaving the arena causes all coins earned to be automatically deposited into the coin collector and yields the appropriate amount of Pizazz points, Magic experience, and coins.
- Coins earned as a reward from this activity are deposited directly into the player's bank account. Ultimate Iron players receive them into their inventory instead.
Strategy
Both alchemy spells require only fire and nature runes, so bringing a staff of fire (or similar) or a charged tome of fire is recommended. An Explorer's ring also provides 30 free casts of low or high alchemy per day.
At the start of each rotation search any cupboard and thus determine the location of the 30-coin item (plugins can also be used for this). Then take and alchemise these items for the rest of the rotation; sets of 5 items can be taken at once from the cupboard if desired. Using this method allows around 18 items to be alchemised per rotation, giving 324 Pizazz points and 135,000 Magic experience per hour if casting High level alchemy.
To improve efficiency, players can also keep a few extra of each item type in their inventory to alchemise while running to the correct cupboard. This increases the number of casts per rotation to around 19, giving 342 Pizazz points and 142,500 experience per hour.
Either method consumes approximately 900 nature runes per hour, although the exact amount depends on how often the 30-coin item is also the item that is free to cast on.
