Bird nests are items found through activities such as Woodcutting, bird house trapping, and killing the Giant mole. There are several varieties of nests, which either contain seeds, rings, or bird's eggs.

Most activities reward a random selection of seed, ring, and egg nests. Additionally, some activities reward clue nests, which contain a clue scroll. Opening all types of clue nests except beginner will provide an empty nest.

On rare occasions (1/250), the Armadyl crossbow special attack will be heard instead of the chirping sound.

Obtaining

Types of nests

Seed nest

Seed nests contain a random tree or fruit tree seed. These nests can be obtained through Woodcutting, bird house trapping, chopping ent trunks, Managing Miscellania, or during Gnome Restaurant. They can also be obtained by using a bird's egg on the shrine in the Woodcutting Guild.

Wearing a strung rabbit foot decreases the chance of seed nests while woodcutting, by replacing some seed nests drops with ring and egg nests. However, wearing a strung rabbit foot while bird house trapping does not affect the chance of getting seed nests.

Ring nest

Ring nests contain a random type of either gold, sapphire, emerald, ruby, or diamond ring.

Ring nests are found from woodcutting, Managing Miscellania, bird house trapping, chopping ent trunks, and trading mole parts with Wyson.

Wearing a strung rabbit foot while woodcutting or bird house trapping makes ring nests slightly more likely by replacing some drops of seed or empty nests.

Egg nest

Egg nests contain one of the three types of bird's eggs. The colour of the egg is visible in the nest, so it is possible to tell which egg will be received before searching the nest. The eggs can be offered to the shrine in the Woodcutting Guild to receive 100 Prayer experience as well as a seed nest or piece of the evil chicken outfit.

Egg nests are received from woodcutting, bird house trapping, chopping ent trunks, friendly ent events and Managing Miscellania.

Wearing a strung rabbit foot increases the chance of getting egg nests while woodcutting or bird house trapping, by replacing some drops of seed or empty nests.

Wyson nest

A variant type of seed nest is received from Wyson the gardener in Falador Park. These nests commonly contain low level allotment seeds, but can also reward high level herb, tree, and fruit tree seeds. Wyson provides 1 nest in exchange for each mole claw and mole skin given to him. The mole parts can be noted, and will be exchanged for nest boxes if there is not enough room in the inventory. These boxes can be extracted at a bank to obtain the nests.

Clue nest

Clue nests are nests that can be found while training Woodcutting or emptying bird houses on Fossil Island. Searching them will give players a clue scroll of the indicated difficulty, leaving an empty bird nest (excluding beginner clue nests). Like clue scrolls, players can only have one of each type of clue nest in their possession.

Empty nest

Most nests produce an empty nest after searching their contents. Empty nests can be crushed with a pestle and mortar to get a crushed nest, which is used in Herblore to create Saradomin brews. Bird nests are only tradeable when empty or crushed.

Some activities can also provide empty nests, such as bird house trapping and trading mole parts with Wyson.

Discontinued nests

Wyson nests (2006-2016)

Seed nests from Wyson originally rewarded relatively low level seeds, and were considered to not be valuable enough compared to the difficulty of the content. To improve the nests, Wyson nests were updated on 18 February 2016 to reward more valuable seeds. Wyson nests obtained prior to this update could still exist in player banks and inventories and can be searched to provide seeds from the original reward table.

Pre-Farming Guild

Seed nests and Wyson nests were updated on 10 January 2019 with the release of the Farming Guild. All nests previously obtained would remain in banks and inventories, and new nests would be added that contained dragonfruit, celastrus, and redwood tree seeds. Snape grass seeds were also added to Wyson nests. This change was made to prevent players from obtaining large quantities of the new seeds immediately upon release of the content.
