The Trailblazer League was the second league in Old School RuneScape,[1] which began on 28 October 2020 (12:30PM GMT) and lasted until 6 January 2021. Development for the league began in mid-June of 2020.[2]

A rerun of the league called the Trailblazer Reloaded League started on 15 November 2023 and ended on 10 January 2024, featuring Great Kourend and Kebos Lowlands as a new region.

Players will begin the league in Misthalin, unlocking subsequent regional areas by completing a fixed number of tasks. Karamja is unlockable for free, without any tasks being completed. They can only unlock another three areas in the game from a choice of Wilderness, Fremennik Isles, Asgarnia, Morytania, Kharidian Desert, Kandarin, and Tirannwn, therefore they will never be able to access the complete map and will have to choose wisely which areas to unlock.[3]

Kebos and Kourend are not accessible in this league. Death's office, player-owned houses, random events, and rune essence mines are accessible from any area. Slayer Masters will only be able to assign tasks to players in areas that they have unlocked, and players can only respawn in areas they have unlocked.

Player restrictions

Every player will be an Ironman/Ironwoman, and come with the same restrictions as if playing in Ironman Mode, including not being able to trade with other players. Some shops will have increased stock and accelerated restock rates to account for the large numbers of Ironman players. Some bossing mechanics might be changed to allow for group bossing of non-instanced bosses.[4]

Players will start with a 5x accelerated experience rate, and begin with level 3 Herblore, 5 Runecraft, and level 10 Agility to enable Herblore training, Runecraft training, and the use of the Draynor Village Rooftop Course. Quests or diary tasks will be automatically unlocked if they require access to inaccessible areas, including Druidic Ritual and Lost City.

New features

Trailblazer League introduces several new features, including the addition to passive relic unlocks, that were absent from the first league:

  • There will be a new Areas Interface, designed by Mod Husky, that provides details about unlocked areas. This information includes: what specific places are unlocked when a new region is selected, key features of the area, what achievement diaries and quests are completable in the area, and interesting or useful attractions are accessible in the area.[5]
  • A separate task completion system for area unlocks that balances gameplay between grinding for high point value tasks and completing several low level tasks in the early and mid-game.
  • A "safe PvP" system will be introduced into the wilderness that lets players fight each other for access to areas, but does not result in the loss or attainment of player owned items.[6]

Tasks

Tasks in the Trailblazer League allow players to earn league points and unlock relics that buff their character. Tasks will span five different difficulty levels: Easy, Medium, Hard, Elite, and Master. In the league, there will be hundreds of tasks to complete, ranging from reaching a certain level in a skill to killing certain bosses. Tasks are divided into area-specific and general tasks. Tasks will also prioritize performing unique actions rather than simply repeating an action "x" number of times.[7] There are presently over 962 tasks in the works for Trailblazer League; all currently planned tasks might not make it into the final game mode, and other tasks might be created by the time the league is released.[8]

Examples of area specific tasks include but are not limited to:

All unlockable areas are expected to have roughly the same number of obtainable points available in them.

Areas

As players progress through the league, further areas of the map are unlocked. All players begin their journey with access to Misthalin and Karamja and may unlock a maximum of three other areas by completing certain amounts of tasks.

Rewards

In addition to the league-to-league rewards, players can unlock several rewards for use in the main game. Several rewards have been polled and all proposed rewards have passed.[9] Rewards for Trailblazer League follow the colour palette of Beige, Brown, and Blue. Beige and Brown were selected as the league theme colours because they represent the dust and sand one might encounter when exploring a new land and were also inspired by the fictional explorer Indiana Jones.[10] Blue was selected as the highlight colour to represent the open skies an explorer would see as they travel.

Trailblazer League Trophy

At the end of the League players can claim a cosmetic wieldable trophy representing the tier they placed in. These trophies will not cost any Trailblazer League Reward Points. Bronze to Mithril trophies are shield slot items, while Adamant to Dragon trophies are two-handed items. The trophies have a unique emote that can be activated by right-clicking the trophy. All trophies are untradeable and can be claimed for free.

The points required are the official final points as listed in the Soul Wars And 20th Anniversary Event update.

Top percent Reward Required points
1% 56,310
5% 35,680
20% 18,720
40% 6,480
60% 2,000
80% 510
100% 100

Trailblazer Graceful Set Ornament Kit

The Trailblazer Graceful Set Ornament Kit is a potential reward costing 6000 league points. The set comes with six individual recolour kits, one for each item of graceful.[11]

Trailblazer Relic Hunter Outfit

The Trailblazer Relic Hunter Outfits are potential rewards costing 1000 (tier 1), 3000 (tier 2), and 15000 (tier 3) league points. There are three tiers of the Trailblazer Relic Hunter Outfit, each costing more points than the previous. It is not necessary to buy the lower tiers of outfits to unlock or use the higher tier outfits.

Trailblazer Rug

The Trailblazer Rug is a potential reward costing 5000 league points. The Trailblazer Rug is a 6x6 rug placed in the proposed Player Owned House League Room and, unlike other rugs, it does not appear in the rug hotspot of other rooms.

Trailblazer Dragon Skilling Tools Ornament Kit

The Trailblazer Dragon Skilling Tools Ornament Kit is a potential reward costing 1500 league points. A kit can be used on a dragon harpoon, dragon pickaxe, dragon axe, and their infernal variants to recolour it in the theme of the Trailblazer League. Each kit may only be used on one item at a time, but it may be removed from a dragon tool to be reused on a different tool or traded/sold.

Trailblazer Player Owned House Globe Statue

The Trailblazer Player Owned House Globe Statue is a potential reward costing 4000 league points. The statue globe can be placed in the proposed Player Owned House League Room.

Trailblazer Themed Banner

The Trailblazer Themed Banner is a potential reward costing 500 league points. The banner displays a Chevron and hangs from a pike modeled after the Dragon hasta.[12]

Trailblazer Home Teleport Animation

A home teleport animation is a potential reward costing 1000 league points. This animation shows the player character drawing cardinal directions on the ground in the order of north (N), east (E), west (W), and south (S), before being swept away in a storm of swirling sand. The letters for each direction are drawn pointing toward the direction of those cardinal directions in the game.

Player Owned House League Room

Although not a reward, a player-owned house league hall was polled alongside the Trailblazer League rewards. The league room will require 27 Construction to build and costs 15,000 GP. It will contain the following hotspots:

  • Trophy pedestals: Display up to three League Trophies at once.
  • Trophy storage case: A storage unit that holds and displays all the trophies a player has stored in it.
  • Decorative rug: A large rug that covers the floor and acts independently of other rug hotspots in the house.
  • Decorative statue: A statue that showcases various League themes.
  • Accomplishment scroll: A wall mount similar to the Quest List in the Achievement Gallery. The wall mount displays various League achievements, including the top 100 players in each League by League Points (including Twisted League), all the League Firsts and who obtained them, and a record of a player's own personal performance in each League.
  • Banner stand: Displays any League Banner.
  • Relic Hunter Outfit stand: Displays a player's choice of Relic Hunter Outfits, of any tier. If a Tier 3 Relic Hunter Outfit is displayed, it will allow players to use the Relic Unlock animation from the relevant League through the Emote interface.
