The Ruins of Camdozaal is a ruined underground city which was once the home of the Imcando dwarves after the fall of Imcandoria. It is located beneath Ice Mountain, accessed through the entrance on the western side of the mountain after completion of the quest Below Ice Mountain. The ruins are home to the Sacred Forge, which runs on a material called barronite, and powers the entire city.[1]
History
Prior to the Imcando dwarves' founding of Camdozaal, the city was once the Zarosian fortress of Lassar.[2] Having lost their great city of Imcandoria in the far north,[3] the Imcando dwarves were promised a new home by Saradomin,[4] who would have his forces lay siege to Lassar and grant the Imcando dwarves a new settlement in the ruins of the fortress.
Led by Yonrith Lovakengj,[5] the Saradominist forces marched upon Lassar and destroyed it in one of many attacks on the Zarosian Empire that began after the Betrayal of Zaros. Once the Zarosian forces have been driven out, the Imcando dwarves set to build their new city, naming it Camdozaal. The city would become the prosperous home of the Imcando until the early Fifth Age, when a faction of Fremenniks sought to destroy any users of magic in the Runecrafting Crusades.
With their inclusion of magic in dwarven smithing techniques,[6] as well as experimentation with golems[7] left over from the Zarosian era,[8] the Fremennik turned their weapons toward Camdozaal. The Imcando dwarves, believing their weapons to be strong enough to repel the invasion, were ultimately wiped out.[9]
Today, Camdozaal is a shadow of its former self, and Ramarno is the only remaining inhabitant of the city,[10] until the rediscovery of the ruins during the events of Below Ice Mountain. Though largely forgotten, there remain traces of Lassar in various areas of the ruins.
Getting there
Players can reach the Ruins of Camdozaal in several ways:
- Casting Mind Altar Teleport from Arceuus Spellbook to teleport to the Mind Altar's ruins. This is the fastest way to reach the entrance to Camdozaal.
- Casting Lassar Teleport from Ancient Magicks to teleport to the top of Ice Mountain. Level 68 Agility is required to use the shortcut down the mountain which leads directly to the entrance to Camdozaal.
- Using a combat bracelet to go to the Edgeville Monastery and running west around (or over) the mountain.
- Walking north from Falador.
- Using a games necklace to teleport to Burthorpe and running south-east via the tight-gap shortcut. This requires 14 Agility and completion of the Falador Easy Diary.
- Walking west from Edgeville or Barbarian Village.
Once players have reached Ice Mountain, they can walk west around the mountain (past the entrance to the Dwarven Mine) and then north until they reach the entrance.
Notable Features
Sacred Forge
In the central area of Camdozaal, players will find the Sacred Forge, which powers the entire city. Standing next to it they will find Ramarno, the keeper of the forge.
Barronite shards obtained through activities in Camdozaal may be deposited in the forge, and can then be used to purchase access to the Camdozaal Vault or buffs in Ramarno's Shard Exchange.
Bank
There is a bank chest in the centre of the ruins, just east from Ramarno and the Sacred Forge.
Mining
The Camdozaal Mines contain 18 Barronite rocks that yield barronite shards with a chance to receive barronite deposits, gems, or clue geodes. Bronze pickaxes are obtainable from the barrels near Ramarno, next to the bank deposit box, and on each side of the bridge in the mining area. There is a hammer spawn nearby, should the player forget their hammer.
Smithing
Next to Ramarno and the sacred forge there is a regular anvil, as well as a special anvil called the Barronite Crusher, which is used to crush barronite deposits. Doing so yields barronite shards and a rare chance to find the barronite head, ancient relics and, for members, a broken Imcando hammer.
Fishing
Using a small fishing net or big fishing net, players can catch special fish that can be offered at the nearby altar, granting Prayer XP. They may also catch barronite shards instead of a fish, with a rare chance at fishing up a barronite handle or a clue bottle.
There is a small fishing net spawn near the fishing spots should the player need it, as well as a knife spawn.
Types of fish that can be caught here include:
Fish | Net Required | Fishing | Cooking | Prayer | Members | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Level | Exp | Level | Exp | Level | Exp | ||||
Guppy | Small fishing net | 7 | 8 | 7 | 12 | 1 | 4 | ||
Cavefish | Small fishing net | 20 | 16 | 20 | 23 | 1 | 7 | ||
Tetra | Small fishing net or Big fishing net |
33 | 24 | 33 | 31 | 1 | 10 | ||
Catfish | Big fishing net | 46 | 33 | 46 | 43 | 1 | 16 |
Before they can be offered, the fish must be prepared at one of the preparation tables with a knife. Doing so requires the same Cooking level as the Fishing level required to catch each fish. These fish cannot be cooked or eaten. Members can also catch cave eels and slimy eels here, which cannot be prepared or offered to the altar, though they can be cooked for use as food.
Combat & Runecraft
In the eastern section of the ruins, several golems can be found that drop Runecrafting cores and the barronite guard.
Vault
The Camdozaal Vault is located north of the central area. For a cost of 750 barronite shards, players can run through a maze-like structure for 60 seconds to obtain various items.

Bottomless pit
A bottomless pit is located just north of the mining area. During and after Desert Treasure II, this pit serves as the entrance to the Lassar Undercity, where The Whisperer can be found.
When walking onto the northernmost tile near the pit, there is a small chance for a message to appear in the chatbox of a 'Strange Voice' saying Come... Come... Come... Down into the depths... Come....

Trivia
- 'Zaal' is the Dutch word for 'hall' or 'large room'.
- If the ring of visibility and ghostspeak amulet are worn, several ghosts can be found wandering the ruins, although they do not appear as NPCs on the minimap: one in the chaos golem room, one in the hallway north of the bank chest and another in the mining area.
- One of the ghosts in the mining area talks about Yonrith Lovakengj, alluding to a link between the ruins and Kourend's Lovakengj House. This connection is elaborated upon during the quest Desert Treasure II - The Fallen Empire.
- In a Postbag from the Hedge, a letter was addressed to the bottomless pit. Postie Pete transcribed its whispers as 'Here... In the inky depths... We languish in sorrow... Come... Come... Join our choir of shadow... Come...'[11]
