During The Fremennik Trials, the player can attempt to enter the backstage as 'an acapella bard', but regardless of the song chosen the bouncer will call the performance "a pile of tosh."
"Murphy Row The Boat Ashore" is possibly a reference to the traditional African-American spiritual Michael, Row the Boat Ashore, best known from a 1960 recording simply titled "Michael" by American folk group The Highwaymen.
