The profit rate assumes kills per hour. Your actual profits may be higher or lower depending on your speed, luck and skill with evading pkers.

Obtaining keys

Each Bryophyta kill requires one mossy key. Those are obtained most easily in free-to-play by killing moss giants in the Wilderness, as these have a 1/60 drop chance as opposed to 1/150 for all other moss giants. Bring as little risk as possible, and be prepared for player killers. An example setup is shown on the right, which includes some runes for High Level Alchemy (requires Magic 55 ), and Snare to evade player killers (requires Magic 50 ). Do not use Prayer except against player killers.

The moss giants can easily be reached from Ferox Enclave using the canoe (requires Woodcutting 57 ) or by using the minigame teleport to last man standing. One should expect 1-3 keys and a beginner clue per trip. One should leave when a player killer starts attacking them or when one has less than 10 swordfish left. Try to walk back to Ferox Enclave, or further towards Grand Exchange when teleblocked (and then take the canoe to Ferox Enclave).

The profit calculation does not take any loot other than keys into account from these moss giants. Picking up some loot will increase profit somewhat.

If a player killer is about to kill you it's best to drop the keys. They are untradeable and won't appear for other players. After you've been killed you can return and pick up the keys within 3 minutes.

Suicide method

Another possibility for players with high stats (70+ Prayer, 80+ combat stats) is to set their respawn point to Edgeville, only bring a rune scimitar and bronze axe, and only pick up mossy keys. Return to Edgeville by dying to moss giants or player killers. Note: If you pick up anything else (e.g. coins), you will not keep the mossy keys (they are the first thing you lose, and will be deleted).

You can extend your trip by using Protect from Melee, and pick up more keys/a beginner clue/keep your axe by using protect item.

This has the added benefit that pkers don't get anything, which will not make them return for you.

Killing Bryophyta

7

With decent combat stats, one can expect to do 4–7 Bryophyta kills per trip. Equip full rune armour or green d'hide armour and a rune scimitar, and fill your inventory with swordfish (optionally, bring one strength potion and some anchovy pizza). When the growthlings appear, take a bronze axe from the logs in the lair (when required, juggle some food for inventory space). Be conservative with defensive prayers (Protect from Magic) to increase trip length, and optionally flick offensive prayers (Incredible Reflexes and/or Ultimate Strength).

Note: When not using a slash weapon such as rune scimitar, one requires a knife or bronze axe or similar to slash a web before accessing the lair.
