A mossy key grants players access to Bryophyta's lair in the moss giant section of the Varrock Sewers.

It is consumed when used to unlock the gate, allowing one fight with Bryophyta per key. It is possible to hold more than one mossy key at once.

The drop rate of mossy keys are 1/150 from moss giants, 1/120 from Iorwerth Dungeon moss giants, and 1/60 from Wilderness moss giants. However, while on a moss giant Slayer task, the drop rate is increased to 1/50 from regular moss giants and to 1/40 from Iorwerth Dungeon moss giants. This drop rate increase remains when killing moss giants outside of the wilderness when on a wilderness Slayer task, despite the kills not progressing the task. If a moss giant is killed in the Wilderness as part of a Slayer task, the rate becomes around 1/33.6.^[1]

Boosts to the drop rate stack with each other if both conditions are met, in the form of sequential rolls were the first one to fail.^[2] The increased drop rate while residing in the Wilderness is also extended to free-to-play accounts, while the Slayer task boost may still apply in free-to-play worlds in the event an account had a moss giant task when their membership lapsed.^[3]
