The Phoenix hq key was an item used in the first months of RuneScape during the Shield of Arrav quest to access the Phoenix Gang's headquarters. Previously, after delivering the Intel report to Straven, two keys would be received. The quest was silently reworked in a hidden update several months after release; the key was removed in favour of Straven not letting players enter the hideout if they had not joined the gang. At the time of its release, it was tradable, since non-tradable items did not exist during 2001.

This item was previously named just "Key" until the Varrock update, when it was renamed to "Phoenix hq key", possibly to avoid confusion with other keys.

As it was discontinued long before 2007, it has never been obtainable in Old School RuneScape. Despite this, the item's examine was updated in 2015.
