An ecumenical key is an item dropped by all monsters in the Wilderness God Wars Dungeon, east of the Forgotten Cemetery, which can be used to instantly access the boss room of any one of the five Godwars bosses (General Graardor, Kree'arra, Commander Zilyana, K'ril Tsutsaroth, and Nex) without having to obtain the kill count normally required.

The keys are only recommended for trips at Kree'arra or Commander Zilyana, as their soldiers take longer to kill. They are not recommended for General Graardor, K'ril Tsutsaroth, and Nex, due to the former two having weak soldiers that can be quickly killed, and the latter's counting for multiple essence per kill.

Players are limited to having three (3) keys at a time; completing the Medium and Hard Wilderness Diary increases this limit to four (4) and five (5) keys, respectively. If players receive additional key drops, they will be unable to pick them up as they are deleted; a message appears in the player's chatbox stating, "You already have enough of these".

Once the key has been used, it will disappear from the player's inventory. If the player has both sufficient kill count and a key, the kill count will be consumed first. Unlike most untradeable items, the ecumenical key is always lost upon death.

Players who have completed the Hard Wilderness Diary may also sell ecumenical keys to the Lesser Fanatic in Edgeville for 61,500 coins per key.

Obtaining

While all monsters within the Wilderness God Wars Dungeon can drop the ecumenical key, the fastest way to obtain keys is to kill lower-levelled monsters, such as imps, goblins, icefiends, and pyrefiends. Imps are the weakest, while ice and pyrefiends tend to fight Saradominist spiritual mages, Bandosian spiritual warriors, and orks frequently. The spiritual mages and warriors may also be killed if they are low on health, provided that the player possesses the appropriate Slayer level to do so.

A faster but riskier way to get keys is to barrage the enemies without god protection in the Bandosian section due to the area being more focused on melee enemies and the enemies will be permanently aggressive for the duration of the trip.

The base drop rate of the ecumenical key is 1/60; the hard, elite, master, and grandmaster tier rewards from the Combat Achievements system increases this to 1/55, 1/50, 1/45, and 1/40 respectively.

The player may also create keys through shards obtained from Nex, with 50 required for one key. The shards are unaffected by the key limit, although the player is prohibited from making more keys if they have reached their according cap.

Trivia

• The key has a similar purpose as soulstones in RuneScape, although soulstones require kill count to work, and do not disappear when used.
