A brittle key is a key which grants the player permanent access to the Slayer Tower's rooftop, where the Grotesque Guardians reside. It is used on the roof entrance on the top floor of the tower to access the rooftop.

It is only dropped by gargoyles when a player is assigned them for a Slayer task.

Once players have unlocked the gate to roof entrance, the gate will remain permanently unlocked on the account and the key can no longer be obtained. If the drop trick is used to obtain a second key, it will say You don't need that. and be deleted as soon as it is picked up.
