The strongroom key is an item obtained during The Path of Glouphrie, found by opening the gold chest in the storeroom of the Tree Gnome Village dungeon.

It is used to open the gates in the western side of the storeroom to access Yewnock's machine. Once the gate has been unlocked the key can no longer be obtained.
