Undead trees are located in the front yard of Draynor Manor and in the Haunted Woods. Unlike the dead trees surrounding them, they attack players walking past them for 0 to 3 melee damage. Undead trees maintain aggressiveness regardless of a player's combat level, and follow standard rules for tolerance. They can be spotted by their yellow examine option, identifying them as an NPC, and are also slightly smaller in size.
Undead trees cannot be cut until the Animal Magnetism quest, where the player obtains a blessed axe. Attempting to chop the tree with no axe results in the message You don't have an axe which could possibly affect this wood.. Attempting to chop the tree with any axe other than the blessed axe will result in the message The axe bounces off the undead wood. and an animation of swinging the axe and it bouncing off the tree. It is also currently not possible to chop down the tree through intentional mechanics. 35 Woodcutting is required to cut the tree, having less results in the message You need a Woodcutting level of 35 or more in order to cut this tree.. A Slayer level of 18 is required to chop the tree, having less results in the message Your[sic] need a Slayer level of 18 or more in order to properly use the axe on these trees.
Chopping the trees near Draynor Manor will give undead twigs, in the place of the traditional logs. Interestingly, it is possible to receive a bird nest from an undead tree.
Killing an undead tree
Despite the undead tree being a monster, it cannot be directly attacked, and attempting to cast Monster Examine on the tree yields the message You can't find out their stats.. Undead trees are susceptible to the passive effects of the broodoo shield and charged black mask, but are immune to recoil effects, including the ring of recoil, ring of suffering, vengeance, and the amulet of the damned used with Dharok the Wretched's equipment. Retribution and Dynamite(p) do not cause damage to undead trees.

Additional drops
- Bird Nest – The bird nest will be given in addition to undead twigs. The nests may be of the seed, ring, or egg varieties. The bird nests can drop on a tile adjacent to the player, including ones not accessible, as well on the same tile as the tree.

Trivia
- Prior to the release of Forestry, the trees would only drop empty bird nests, as determined by a sample of 12,245 undead twigs cut. Prior to the update, the average drop rate of these empty nests was about 1/245.
- Undead trees do not set the skilling tick, meaning that players can swing at them and obtain twigs in every tick. Although the base experience gained from the twigs is a mere 5, players who had chosen the Equilibrium relic during the Trailblazer League were able to use this method to maximise the bonus experience from the relic's effect.
- The examine message is a play on the proverb "Its bark is worse than its bite".
